I have a notoriously small stomach. I almost never finish a full plate of food and my inability to finish what has been put in front of me has become somewhat of a running joke with family and friends. When I was little I used to pass my leftovers to my dad on the sly and to this day I still push my plate towards him at family dinners. But despite my teeny tiny stomach there is one thing I always have space for – snacks! I’m constantly snacking and my desk drawer at work is always filled to the brim with quick bites to curb the afternoon tummy grumble. I try to make sure I’m always stocked up on healthy snacks to nibble on, so my worst nightmare is opening that beloved drawer to find that I’ve forgotten to stock up on snacks for the week. But recently I discovered the most amazing new service that is taking the fuss out of shopping for healthy snacks. It’s called New Leaf Food Co and I’m simply smitten with the pure genius of it.

The brand spanking new company was started by snack enthusiast Angela who is hell bent on getting people to make smarter snacking choices at home, the office and in the car. New Leaf is looking to help people banish the vending machine for good, and takes the sin out of snacking by offering busy eaters over thirty delicious healthy snacks to keep the hunger pangs at bay. This clever little initiative is perfect for people on the run because Angela and her team bring the snacks right to your door. I love that it takes the headache out of making healthy choices, and the best bit is the snack options include chocolate!

Ordering your snacks is also super easy – just visit the New Leaf website, select your snacks for the month and each week a little box of awesome will arrive at your desk ready to be scoffed down. Snacks are broken up into categories so it’s easy to find what you want and plan your snacks for the month. Each box contains four snack options for you to enjoy throughout the week and the range includes everything from fruits and nuts to snack bars and biltong.

What’s more the orders work on a month to month basis, so there are no annoying contracts to get out of, and if you don’t like it you can just stop ordering – simple. I also love that you can customise exactly what goes into your box and the prices for the snacks are not bad at all. You can get snacking from as little as R59 per week (R236 per month), depending on what you choose to go into your snack box.

I got to try out a New Leaf snack box and loved the snacks I found inside. For a whole week I got to nibble on a yummy muesli bar (R65 per month), 10am Mix (Dried Cranberries, cashew nuts & almonds – R65 per week), Yoghurt Apple Rings and the Mood Booster Mix (dried cranberries, goji berries, blackberries & cherries mixed with dark chocolate buttons – R73 per month). I especially loved the Mood Booster Mix with its dark chocolate surprises thrown in.

Tip:If you're keen to order you're own box just be prepared for the additional R145 monthly delivery fee.

Angela Hi Stacey and Zonna, don't forget that the delivery fee is a monthly cost and therefore includes 4 deliveries to your office. For JHB it works out to R35.50 per delivery. Also as Crystal mentioned if you and a friend in the office sign up together then you both only pay R17.75 per week for delivery. :)

Stacey What an awesome idea! I just think R142 for everywhere in Joburg is a bit steep for a delivery charge. It takes it up to around R500 per month. Not too bad if you have the cash, but much more than what I currently spend on snacks and the same amount as a membership to something like Adventure Boot Camp... which is much better for you in the long run. Lol.

Crystal Hi Zona, sorry about that. I knew there was a shipping charge but I think it's different for different areas so couldn't put a specific price in. They're also running a special = if you sign up with someone else you get 50% off shipping!

Zonna Loved this idea and immediately went on to place a order, but you forgot to mention the R142 extra shipping charge...
