Great news Darlings - there’s a new craft cider in town and you are going to fall head over heels in love with it. Created by two of the Cape’s leading wine business personalities, Paul Cluver and Bruce Jack, the new cider is beyond delicious and unlike anything else on the market right now. The new drink has arrived just in time for the holiday season and I have already started making plans to stock up on as many bottles as I can. Trust me this is going to be a fabulous addition to family lunches, braais and lazy afternoons by the pool. Here’s why you simply must get a taste of the Cluver and Jack Premium Apple Cider as soon as possible!
The thing I love most about Cluver & Jack craft cider, and the thing that makes it truly unique, is that it is not made from concentrated juice, but rather from pure juice. The juice used for this apple cider is freshly pressed from apples grown in Elgin and as a result the cider offers thirsty cider lovers a truly exceptional product with a taste like no other cider on the market. The Cluver family own De Rust, a farm where they have grown apples for five generations and these apples are used to create the delicious Cluver and Jack ciders. Only the freshest, handpicked apples (not ones that have fallen to the ground where they quickly start to rot) are used to make this cider which allows them to create a very pure, crisp and refreshing cider in the most natural way possible. The cider is also made in the Paul Cluver winery so they are one hundred percent involved in the manufacturing of the drink from start to finish.
But the expertise don’t stop; the other half of the duo the Jacks, farm organically on The Drift Farm in the Overberg (they manufacture the most divine wines you will ever taste!), and Bruce Jack’s great grandfather was one of the first people to plant cider apple trees in South Africa. Bruce Jack himself has been making cider for many years and is well-known for making some pretty stellar ciders well before his Cluver and Jack days. Together Paul and Jack plan to be at the forefront of the craft cider revolution in South Africa, and I for one am super excited to see what else they come up with in the future.
I got the chance to sample their delicious new cider (the first of many in the range!) and was blown away. Cluver and Jack is so unbelievably refreshing and easy drinking and I can honestly say that it blows the ciders we have come to know and love in this country right out of the water. The cider pairs amazingly well with food as it doesn’t over power delicate flavours and would also work well as a welcome drink served chilled (not over ice as it will dilute the stunning taste). The bottle the cider comes in is also really fab and I love the clean, simple label on the bottle.
And now for the great news; unlike craft beer this cider won’t cast you an arm and a leg and will retail for about R19.50! That is truly incredible if you think about how much you are currently paying for mass produced ciders. The Cluver and Jack Premium Apple Cider will shortly be available at Beerhouse and Norman Goodfellows bottle stores.
