The thought of a wine and cheese tasting has always crossed my mind, but I never managed to get ‘round to having a cheesy affair … until now. After visiting Patisserie de Paris and being exposed to all those different tastes and aromas, I have definitely garnered a little more respect for the humble cheese.
Set in the quiet suburb of Blairgowrie, Patisserie de Paris is a pastry shop, bakery and now a mini cheese market. Walking in, I felt like I was in a high tea bakery in Paris, enjoying some ‘me-time’. The pink, warm décor and vibrant ambience is welcoming for a late brunch, a catch up session with the girls and is even a great spot to read a book.
Inspired by a cheese shop and French market in Cape Town, owner Paul Zwick gave me a walkthrough and schooled me on some of the finest traditional cheeses that come all the way from France (it’s not our ordinary cheddar or Gouda, by the way).
With 40 of the finest cheeses in stock, from your mild brie and camembert to the heavy taste of Roquefort, it’s no wonder chefs from all over the country stock up at this place.
The patisserie also brings Joburgers some of the finest produits d'épicerie (grocery goods) for any dinner party – they’ve got everything from nectarines and mustards to salt, mayonnaise, vinger and olive oil.
For me, that cheesy experience introduced me to a whole new world of food … Darlings, I’m now hung up on cheese and crave it for most of my meals – toast, nachos, sarmies, cheese grillers, mozzarella sticks and even cheese cakes, you name it … I’ll prepare it! Pay Patisserie de Paris a visit and you’ll understand what I mean.
Say Hi to Patisserie de Paris on .
