Ok, so last week I discovered the most amazing place and I’ve been itching to tell you all about it ever since. It’s called EAT IN Taylored Spaces and it’s officially my new favourite eatery and home decor shop (no, I’m not high on cough syrup, and yes you read that correctly). The new eatery-slash-decor haven in Greenside is the brain child of interior design guru Joanne Taylor and I’m so glad someone had the smarts to bring it to fruition here in Joburg.
Stepping into EAT IN Taylored Spaces is a bit confusing at first - you’re not quite sure if you should sit down and order something to eat or manhandle all the beautiful goodies that line the walls. I decided to do some exploring first and found some of the cutest handpicked decor items that I just had to have. From oh-so-clever egg and toast serving boards to quirky vases and artwork there’s something for everyone at Taylored Spaces.
I also loved that Joanne is super price conscious when selecting her stock and there are goodies priced from as little as a hundred bucks (perfect for retail therapy or birthday and house warming gifts) to a few thousand rand. The spot also stocks one-of-a-kind furniture pieces that Joanne has found and repurposed herself - I fell in love with a large three-seater antique couch that has been re-imagined and modernised to add a touch of quirky glamour to any home (preferably my home, but I digress).
Something else I think is super cool is that the whole space is part of the EAT IN restaurant area. So you can sit down on one of the plush couches, relax with a cup of coffee and then buy it before you leave. And now for the clever trick of this spot – there’s no such thing as an impulse buy here. No, instead you fall in love with the pieces as you gaze at them over your cup of coffee – it’s a slow build and after sitting in the space for a little while you’ll swear the various goodies on the shelves are flirting with you, begging you to take them home.
Now, before you think this is just a home decor store peddling a few slices of cake and a warm cuppa to go along with it, think again. The food at this joint is actually pretty darn good. On the EAT IN menu you’ll find yummy breakfasts, delicious sarmies, wholesome pastas and decadent drinks to fill you up. I indulged in a Decadent Hot Chocolate (R25) and a bacon, brie, caramelised onion, marmalade and rocket sandwich (R50) and couldn’t believe how yummy it was. I also loved the sound of the French Toast Stack with bacon, cheese and tomato (R40) and have made a note to give it a try when I pop in for breakfast.
The space is also for hire for private functions and is perfect for meetings or a chilled lunch with the girls. EAT IN Taylored Spaces is open from 09:00 – 17:00 Monday to Friday and from 09:00 – 15:00 on Saturdays. Say hello on !
