I’ve realised that if I was a boy I would do so well with the ladies! I mean, I’m always discovering perfect date spots that girls would love, so how could I not. I’m also a bit of a romantic at heart and as much as I love finding fabulous restaurants, it’s the romantic spots that really stick in my brain. And so, I’ve decided I should become a date advisor for men. You know, kind of like Will Smith’s character in Hitch, except I would give them a woman’s perceptive on where to take the special ladies in their lives on romantic dates (and let’s face it, most men need the help). One of my latest romantic finds is a quaint little spot in Fourways called Mon Petit Throbb – it’s just too lovely for words and a must-visit for your next special occasion (gentleman I hope you’re taking notes).

So what makes the restaurant such a great date spot? Well, it’s cutesy, the decor is French-inspired and the food is amazing. It’s quite literally the perfect recipe for a romantic date. At night the restaurant is lit up with soft, romantic lighting and the indoor water features, exposed face brick columns and flower pots make you feel like you’re having dinner in the courtyard of a French cottage.

Besides the lovely decor the food is also out-of-this-world yummy. Firstly, I love that they bake their own bread on the premises and that their menu offers so many delicious options. For starters you can tuck into delights like Poached Pears (with caramelised walnuts and gorgonzola with honey dressing on a bed of rocket - R45) or a Chicken Liver Bunny Chow (flambéed in brandy, garlic, peppers, olives and cherry tomatoes and fired up with chillies – R51). For mains you can tuck into everything from pizzas and pastas to seafood, meat dishes and poultry.

I recently went through to Mon Petit Throbb for dinner and fell in love with everything I put in my mouth. For mains I indulged in the Rosa pasta (Bacon, rosa tomatoes tossed with spring onion, parmesan and topped with avo - R74). I loved the flavours in the dish and was super impressed with the portion size. I decided to go super decadent with dessert and ordered the Chocolate Pizza (a sweet pizza base topped with strawberries and ice cream - R43). The pizza was divine and the perfect size to share with your special someone if you’re both feeling a little full after mains. If pizza for dessert isn’t your idea of fabulous then check out the Chocolate Fondant (R39) – I stole a bite of my friend’s dish and it was divine!

So there you have it, your next date night planned! All you have to do now is book a table! Be sure to plan ahead though, they’re extremely popular.

Alma I absolutely adore the decor of this place, but sadly the service is horrendous. And the food is just mediocre. What a shame.
