5 Fabulous Coffee Spots

There’s nothing like a warm cappuccino to get your day started. And we don’t mean in the comfort of your own home. When it comes to good coffee, and great coffee shops, I feel that I’ve become a bit of an expert. As a writer, I spend hours on my laptop, which means I need caffeine to stay alert and inspired. Plus, there’s nothing like a good spot to hang out at – for work or pleasure.

So when it comes to the best spots in Joburg for coffee, socialising and working, there are five stores which really stand out for me. And I admit it…the fact that I’m a woman, who loves to meet my girlfriends for coffee all the time, has something to do with my expertise too.

1. Tashas

They are number one on my list, because the fact is, they are number one in every way. From delicious cappuccinos, to addictive freezos and meals that will keep you full and smiling for hours, Tashas has a relaxed yet trendy feel. With warm, welcoming staff and a variety of options for you and your friends, or colleagues, to choose from, you’re bound to enjoy your experience.

2. Woolworths Cafe

They’re small, cosy and perfect for those early morning meetings which are usually followed by some much-needed grocery shopping. Their coffee is to-die-for - I’ve never ordered a cappuccino which wasn’t just perfect - and their small, quick meals are great while catching up with friends, or finishing up on deadlines.

3. Vovo Telo

This bakery and cafe is perfect for a more chilled coffee session… you know, when you’re trying to catch up on work, or spend time with that friend you haven’t seen in ages. It’s quieter than the bigger stores (and by quiet we don’t mean with no customers) but it has a more relaxed vibe which gives you some time off from the craziness around you.

4. Mugg & Bean

First of all, forget the coffee – have you tasted those choc chip muffins? Okay, let me focus. Most Mugg & Bean stores have 30 minutes of free Wi-Fi, which is great if you need to send off some urgent emails.

5. Motherland Coffee Co

Their coffee is so good that I can't help but order The Mother Cuppa every time I go… and that’s a lot of coffee, even for me. From cappuccinos to espressos, Macchiatos and more - with a bit of cinnamon on top, of course – you’ll be licking your lips after every taste, while you’re surfing the Internet, thanks to their Wi-Fi. Oh, and don’t forget to order a freshly-baked croissant. Delicious!

Enjoy Darlings.

Caren Recently took time out to try a new place in Greende Side "State 5". Must say that there coffee outways all others that I tried. Coming in second is the "Bean Tree" at the Ferndale shopping centre. Would give these two a try for really good coffee

Sheri Salvation cafe, Origin, Father Coffee.... This blog has become very boring and disappointing. I use to look forward to reading it every day but not anymore... please look for new, exciting content

Sue Horrible list of large chain type coffee shops where the trend is leaning towards independent shops. Think its time to unsubscribe.

Othelia So how much did they pay you to punt them? Very disappointing list but that seems to be the trend on this blog these days.

Jane Dozens of great independent, small business and fair trade coffee shops out there producing cups way better than the chains.

Julia I agree with the previous comments - this does feel more like a punt of "big" franchises, rather than the perfect coffee location, I was really looking forward to finding some new amazing coffee spots, what a disappointment :-(
