I have a confession to make - I enjoy baking so much more than cooking. I don’t know why but the idea of baking a tasty delicious treat is so much more satisfying for me than cooking up a three-course dinner. So you can only imagine how excited I was when I discovered the most amazing baking shop in Fourways recently. If, like me, you love to bake then you just have to pay a visit to Kadies!
The little shop is located in a non-descript shopping centre on Kingfisher Drive, so at first glance it doesn’t seem like much at all, but step inside and you’ll be blown away by just how amazing it is. Kadies stocks over 2500 lines of baking and cake decorating paraphernalia and has almost everything you could ever need to make the most amazing baked goodies. From icing and cake moulds to cupcake holders and cake toppers, they’ve got it all! What I love most about the owner-run store is that it’s a joy to visit and there’s always a friendly smile to greet you at the door and a super-helpful hand to help you make important baking-related decisions.
And, if you’re new to the baking world and want to take baby steps at first then try their super handy flop-proof cake mixtures and inexpensive icing equipment – it’s like baking for dummies! What’s more they also offer a variety of children’s novelty cake tins and cake stands for hire – which means you don’t have to invest in a cake tin you’re never going to use again. Once you’re ready to take it to the next level enrol in one of their icing classes to learn how to make your cake look like a masterpiece (classes are R250 per person). And, if you’re not quite brave enough to do the baking yourself then order a fabulous cake from the experts themselves.
Kadies is open from 08:00 – 17:00 Monday to Friday and from 08:30- 13:00 on Saturdays, but if you’re not able to make your way to the store you can also visit their online store to find everything you need for your next big baking project.
