Darlings, last Saturday morning, my boyfriend, Nik, and I both woke up with a serious craving for a hot, foamy cappuccino and a plate of rich, creamy eggs. I quickly whipped out my phone and went onto my Zomato app (how handy is it?) to locate a few nearby breakfast spots that we hadn’t tried yet. At the top of the list of search results was The Whippet in Linden. I scrolled through their tempting menu rather briefly and then decided that we’d give them a try … and, boy, am I happy we did!

Darlings, I’m going to be honest … Linden is a rather quaint little neighbourhood, so I didn’t expect big things from The Whippet. Plus, I’ll admit, my standards are sky high when it comes to coffee and breakfast. However, from the minute Nik and I arrived, we were both pleasantly surprised. This gem is tucked away on the corner of a beautiful, leafy street, and boasts a laidback, rustic look. It was packed when we arrived, but after a short wait, the warm and welcoming hostess showed us to a table outside.

The ambiance outside was wonderful … as lovely and laidback as can be. Things looked a little busier and sounded slightly noisier inside, so I was glad to have secured an outside table. Our very kind and smiley waitress quickly came over and handed us menus. After scanning the drinks options, I decided on a crème brûlée latte, while Nik went for a fresh orange juice. Our drinks arrived at our table promptly, and they were fabulous … my latte was especially luxuriously rich and creamy. I had a taste of Nik’s juice, too, which was fresh, and I just loved how it arrived in a jar … such a cute touch.

To start off, we both ordered a plain croissant with butter and cheese. The croissants came out quickly, and were warm and fresh … how heavenly? I just love a freshly-baked croissant! Then, as our main meal, I ordered the Eggs Benedict with spinach and crispy bacon, and Nik ordered the creamy scrambled eggs on sourdough toast. Our brekkie dishes came out and were both beautifully presented and totally drool-worthy. I almost felt the need to tuck in before snapping a picture … and we all know that that’s not something a foodie like myself ever does, right?

My Eggs Benedict was perfectly cooked … the eggs were soft and the hollandaise sauce was super-fresh. I enjoyed every last mouthful, and can safely tell you that it was one of the best plates of Eggs Benedict I’ve ever had! Nik’s breakfast, on the other hand, looked just as delicious … in fact, it was so good that I wasn’t even allowed to have a bite. All in all, neither of us could fault the food … everything was flawless, and unbelievably fresh and tasty.

To end off our fabulous breakfast on a sweet note, I decided to order a cake for Nik and I to share. The display of gorgeous cakes and tarts inside had me mesmerised from the minute I arrived, if I’m honest. I went for one of their signatures, The Whippet Cake, which was layers of biscuit and milktart with a slight lemony flavour. The cake managed to be rich but not too sweet at the same time … it was just glorious. I can understand why our waitress told us that it’s her favourite dessert.

Though Nik and I both practically rolled out of The Whippet, we thoroughly enjoyed our experience there. The drinks and food were top-notch, and the service was just delightful. I’ll definitely be back to try out their lunch menu! Darlings, this is a fabulous spot for a brekkie with the girls, an intimate brunch date, or just a quality cup of java. Go on and try it out!
