If you have a bun in the oven or already have a tyke or two running around then boy-oh-boy do I have a super awesome surprise for you today! That’s right Darlings; I am about to become your most favourite person ever because I have found the most incredible space where mommies and expecting mommies can go to be pampered from head to toe – I’m talking nails, body treatments, hair and more! What’s more, your kids will love it there too! Mommy Wellness Spa is the definition of heaven-sent for busy moms and tired pregnant lasses who want nothing more than to put their feet up and enjoy a fabulous pedicure. Perfect for an afternoon pamper session, baby showers, birthday parties and more there is no place in Joburg quite like Mommy Wellness Spa!

The relatively new spa in Randpark Ridge is located in a converted family home and is the perfect place for pregnant women, mommies and tots to hang out. The unique space specialises in treatments for pregnant women and mommies with kids in an environment that caters to the specialised needs of moms and families. The spa is owned and run by a sisterly duo and was conceptualised when sister Sasha was pregnant with her first child. She was four months pregnant and suffering from back problems but couldn’t find a spa in Joburg that would allow her to come for a massage. Frustrated, she soldiered on until her little one was born but that wasn’t the end of her woes, because once her son was born she struggled to find a hairdresser that was child-friendly. I mean, the last thing you want to worry about when you’re getting your hair done is whether or not your child is raising havoc in the salon. And, so out of Sasha’s frustration the two sisters came up with the brilliant idea to open a Mommy Wellness Spa in Joburg. Mommy Wellness first started in Cape Town and the Joburg branch is their very first Gauteng franchise.

The one-stop-shop for moms and pregnant women offers a restaurant on site which prepares delicious grub for hungry clients before and after their treatments, a full service spa where you can be treated like a princess, hairdresser where you can get your hair done for that special occasion, a photography studio where you can capture special moments with your family, indoor playroom and outdoor play area supervised by qualified  childminders, as well as a Yoga studio offering ‘young yogi’ classes for little ones and Yoga Mamas classes for moms and pregnant ladies.  In addition to all that they also offer various workshops and support groups led by a lactation consultant. The sisters wanted to create a space where moms and their kids would feel at home and boy did they succeed – I mean, where else in Joburg can you breastfeed while getting a pedicure? Moms are invited to treat the space as their second home to get out of it exactly what they need.

I got the chance to head through to the spa for a pamper session of note and left absolutely smitten with the spot. I started my afternoon off with a light lunch at Bun In the Oven and tucked into a delicious ‘The Smooth One’ sandwich (cottage cheese, avo and sweet chilli – R37.95). The coffee shop offers healthy and nutritious meals for adults and kids to enjoy for breakfast, lunch or tea. The eatery is located at the back of the spa and looks out onto the swimming pool and garden and is a beautifully peaceful spot to spend an hour or two, whether you are having a treatment or not.

From there it was time for some pampering and I was treated to a Pure Stress Relief massage (R350 for 30 mins) which includes a scalp, head, neck and shoulder massage. The treatment is perfect for stress relief and also helps to alleviate the headaches, morning sickness, and neck and shoulder tension so commonly experienced during pregnancy. I must say the treatment was absolutely incredible and I would recommend it to anyone needing a little TLC. From the massage room I moved to the mani area where I was treated to a Gelish manicure, complete with a divine hand massage! My afternoon of pampering was rounded off with a blow-fry and treatment at the oh-so-awesome on-site hair salon, Alvaro & Amici Hairdressing. Here you can get your hair coloured (even when you’re pregnant), cut and styled by their expert stylists. I was pampered by stylist Nastasha who is an absolute whizz with curly hair!

Mommy Wellness is the perfect place to host a pamper party or baby shower for your expecting girlfriend, sister or colleague as well as bridal showers, nappy parties or even birthday parties. And remember, it’s not just for pregnant ladies – I had the most incredible time there and can’t wait to go back, pregnant or not! Mommy Wellness is open for pampering Tuesday through Saturday from 08:30 – 16:30 (with after-hours pampering by arrangement) and special bookings on Mondays.

Trudy Hi I'm 26 weeks pregnant and my baby is very low which makes it hard to walk and sit up straight. What would my positions be for the treatments

Emma Clay I have been there and can vouch that it is truly a home away from home. I met up with a friend for breakfast and soon as I'd arrived, a lovely young woman approached, introduced herself as the child minder and off she went with my toddler, who is normally a limpet. I was able to have a lovely chat with my friend while my child was cared for and entertained in the playroom - all within my sight. The food was delicious and the environment was friendly and family oriented.
