Darlings, if you’re on the hunt for authentic Portuguese food, stop what you’re doing right now because I tried out A Churrasqueira last weekend and it was nothing short of delicious!
A couple of friends and I made a Sunday mission to the south in search of some proper Portuguese food. On the way, we felt like we were in another town altogether! The surrounding scenery was made up of greenery and mountains – a rare sight here in Joburg and one that we revelled in.
Luckily we’d made a reservation because the restaurant was pretty packed! We were seated by our super-friendly waiter and given some fresh, Portuguese bread and butter to munch on while we waited – simple yet delicious.
I had a bit of a tough time deciding what to eat … I couldn’t pick between prawns, calamari and fish … but luckily for me, there were six of us so I got to taste a bit of everything from my friends’ plates. I ordered two king prawns to start, which came with a side salad. Other starters on our table included fried haloumi and a couple of beef trinchados. I couldn’t resist using some of that amazing bread to mop up the tasty lemon butter sauce that accompanied my prawns … and I’m not ashamed to say that I dunked another piece into my boyfriend’s trinchado sauce, too. Yum!
For mains, there was a lot going on on our table – prawn and calamari combos, prego rolls, tuna steaks, grilled codfish and baby chicken. I tried just about everything and, while everything was really tasty, nothing quite topped my king prawns! I’ll definitely be back to make a meal out of them.
For those of you with a sweet tooth, listen to this … A Churrasqueira serves up Magnum milkshakes (yes, you read correctly). You get to pick your favourite Magnum flavour and drink it up! I won’t lie … we had ours before lunch. Life’s short, right?
