I have decided that a handbag is a woman’s most powerful weapon! A handbag turns every woman into a Girl Scout of note (from wet wipes, make-up and hand sanitizer to safety pins, tweezers and floss we’ve got our entire lives in there) and as long as we have our handbags we are always prepared! Besides the ever preparedness a woman’s handbag is also her most powerful weapon because men are afraid of it; they seem to think it is bewitched by some sort of female sorcery and most men would rather hold a scalding hot coal for an hour than be asked to hold a woman’s handbag, or worse, dig inside it for her cell-phone, purse or any other arbitrary item. But, with great power comes great responsibility! We cannot possibly wield this immense amount of power without a simply fabulous handbag, which is why I was beyond excited to discover a brand new local haven for fabulous arm candy – Jinger Jack handbags and accessories! Here’s why you NEED one of their handbags in your arsenal now!

Jinger Jack hails from Cape Town and was started by South African born designer, Claire van Turenhout. Claire has always had a love for colour, form and fashion and her passion for design led her to found Jinger Jack in July 2012. Her first collection included a small range of belts and from there the brand gradually expanded to clutches, sling bags, handbags, wallets, and weekend bags. Today Jinjer Jack offers one of the most impressive ranges of handbags and other accessories that I have ever seen from an independent brand! Distribution has also improved significantly and today fans of the brand can shop for their favourite Jinger Jack items from the flagship store in Cape Town’s Design Quarter, at various boutiques in Cape Town and Joburg and of course, from their online store.

One of my favourite things about the brand is that they are not afraid to be bold and daring. Jinger Jack combines beautifully clean and classic lines with quirky and colourful details to offer customers unique items to spice up their wardrobe. These are bags that beg you to love them and love them you will! To put it simply these aren’t just handbags they are functional pieces of art! What’s more, these beautiful handbags will last a lifetime because they are made from the finest local and imported leathers which develop more and more character over time. Something else I love is that the bags come in a super impressive range of colours – from basics like tan, black and brown to more adventurous corals, greens, yellows and more they’ve got a colour to suit your style!

Some of my favourite bags from the range include the Poppy Tote in turquoise (a beautiful hold-all with press stud side-detail – R1890), the Iris Shoulder Bag in yellow ( a super cool bag with two short handles and one long adjustable shoulder strap – R1790) and the Hawaii Tote in vintage tan (an absolutely exquisite bag with front zip detail - R1390). The vintage tan colour is also definitely my favourite colour in the range and if I could I would buy several handbags in this colour alone! I also fell in love with the Sam wallet in turquoise and brown (the beautiful two-toned wallet is a must for ladies who struggle to find their wallet in their chockfull handbag – R750) and the Vintage Braided belt in old chocolate (a vintage-look belt that can be used to spice up any outfit – R280).
