I am a terrible snob, so when I heard of a “must-visit” Day Spa just off the Selby offramp in town, I was not particularly keen to check it out. But I was challenged to never judge a book by its cover and booked myself in for a Hot Stone Massage and Pedicure (their July special). And I discovered a HUGE venue, with a rather romantic twist that really appealed to me.
The Pyramid Day Spa is NOT pretty from the outside, and you can’t help but feel slightly panic-stricken that this is the venue that you have chosen to transform you from “stressed and tired-looking” to “zen-like and glowing”. But you need to trust me here and just make it through the front door, and you will forget the location and be drawn inside by the feeling of sheer and utter opulence.
The award-winning décor is very Egyptian, and you do get the sense that you have been transformed back in time to when women bathed in milk! I loved the fact that the spa is SO much bigger than it appears, with so many places to tuck yourself away and relax. It really is best to make FULL use of their free facilities, and I gazed enviously at groups of women that were curled up on various couches, chatting and sipping their drinks. What a wonderful idea.
My massage was excellent (90-minutes just flew by) and the pedicure stations are SO comfortable that I can’t imagine why other spas don’t steal the design. I was absolutely starving and had a rather delicious chicken and avo wrap for lunch while having a pedicure – you can even order freshly made sushi!
I am dying to try their Flotation Tank next – apparently half an hour is equivalent to four hours’ sleep! And the Rasul treatment sounds completely decadent with its private chamber where your whole body is exfoliated, steamed and rinsed with a rain shower. Perfect for couples!
There are also two Executive Suites that are just so romantic. You and your partner can book a couples’ massage before lounging in your private Spa Bath while sipping on champagne, chocolates and strawberries. How perfect for an anniversary!
