Darlings, last week Monday my boyfriend, Nik, and I decided to treat ourselves to a luxurious dinner after a long day at the office. After hearing so many great things about the intimate restaurant that is The Feedroom at Tintswalo at Waterfall, we decided to pay the spot a visit … and we’re oh-so-glad we did!
Tintswalo is a lovely boutique hotel situated on Waterfall Equestrian Estate that exudes both comfort and luxury. The Feedroom, which is the hotel’s only restaurant, offers exceptional cuisine and a top-notch wine list to match. Nik and I arrived at the restaurant early on Monday evening. We instantly admired minimalistic décor … the elegant thick stone clad walls, heavy bolted timber roof trusses and double volume spaces made for a relaxed and rather romantic feel.
To start off, we both ordered a glass of wine and a starter. I went for the calamari tubes, and Nik ordered the soup of the day, which was a butternut soup. The starters came out in good time, and they were great. My calamari was cooked to perfection and the tangy harissa and chardonnay lemon butter sauce that it was served in was sublime. Nik’s soup, on the other hand, was glorious … fresh and creamy as can be.
Then, for mains, I decided to have the line fish cooked in a herb crumble, and Nik had the duck served on mashed potato. My fish was really delicious – a tad plainer than I expected, but I’m a very “plain” eater, so I thoroughly enjoyed it. Nik said that his duck, on the other hand, was cooked perfectly and that the mash and vegetables that accompanied the dish were fresh and delicious.
To end our evening off on a sweet note, we ordered two desserts to share … the malva pudding and the macadamia white chocolate toffee cheesecake. To be honest, in comparison the other dishes, the desserts were a bit less memorable … they didn’t boast the same burst of freshness and flavour that the others did … but they were good nonetheless.
Apart from the food, I must mention that our waitress made us feel very at home … she was exceptionally kind and professional all evening long. Overall, I must say that we had a delightful time at The Feedroom … it was a unique and very enjoyable experience. If you’re looking to try somewhere different for your next date night, I definitely recommend this spot, Darlings.
