As you all know by now I have a tendency to be a little bit of a hipster. I’d prefer to say I have an eye for the unusual, but ask any of my friends and they’ll just shake their heads and label my amazing talents as leaning a little too much towards hipster tendencies. I think they’re all just a little too mainstream for their own good. But I digress; what I really want to tell you about is my latest amazing discovery – Ceramic Factory. It’s the only place to go for quirky and cool ceramic goodies for your home.
This store on 4th Avenue in Linden is chockfull of all sorts of fun and fabulous ceramic creations that will just make your heart melt. I love that the idea behind all the designs in store is “Fun versus Functionality” and you can tell that everything on their shelves is made to be a talking point in your home. What’s more, the store offers different collections every few months so you can be sure that you’ll always find something new and different on their shelves.
This time around they’ve launched The Citizenship Collection as a celebration of humanity. The super quirky collection combines mostly handmade ceramics made from terracotta. The Citizenship Collection consists of two individual ranges, namely The Fro Family and The Village of the Rhino.
The Fro Family, a celebration of the African continent and its diverse people, is an incredibly fun and playful range (even the dog figurines have afros!) that features super useful items with a bit of flair. There’s a wine bottle holder, ice bucket, coffee mug and other fun and functional items all formed around the afro motif. The Village of the Rhino celebrates the rhinoceros and offers a utensil holder, piggy bank, butter dish and wall mounted pot plant holders all in the shape of rhinos. (The pot plant holders are simply to die for!)
If that doesn’t catch your fancy there’s plenty more to choose from in-store. I fell in love with their bunny rabbit figurines and their super clever vintage car key plates. And, if you’ve got a birthday or house warming coming up this month, then this is the perfect place to go hunting for a unique gift for a friend or a new addition to your home. Their prices range from R135 to R1 200 so you can choose to spare your wallet or spoil yourself.
