I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but it seems there have been quite a number of new restaurants opening up all over Joburg lately … and one that I’ve been hearing a lot about is BEAST Grill. Located in the Rock Cottage Shopping Centre, I decided to pay this spot a visit with a group of friends a couple of weekends ago for lunch … and I can’t wait to share my experience with you.

With a name like BEAST, you won’t be surprised to hear that this trendy restaurant specialises in meats, both smoked and grilled. Even though I’m not the biggest meat eater … in fact, I’m an aspiring vegan (one day, one day!) … I was pretty excited to grab a bite to eat at BEAST. That was pretty much only because of the photos of their delicious-looking mac and cheese I’d been seeing all over Facebook for weeks before my visit.

I arrived at the restaurant on a Saturday afternoon with my small group of friends, and instantly admired the restaurant’s inviting and attractive décor. The space inside is chic, and somewhat pub-style, which makes for a comfortable feel. You’ll also be glad to know that outside is a lovely deck, which I can imagine is great for enjoying a meal on a balmy summer’s evening.

To start, we ordered two bottles of their house wine, which I might add are real quality, and some of the guys ordered up craft beers. Then, to eat, I ordered up their dreamy mac and cheese … and, Darlings, I’m happy to report that it certainly lived up to my expectations! It was a bowl of cheesy, creamy, gooey goodness … and I enjoyed every last mouthful.

I was also lucky enough to have a taste of some of the tantalising dishes that my lunchtime companions were munching on, and can gladly say that the rump steak as well as the polenta with mushroom ragout were equally as impressive as my own meal. To add, each of the portions were tremendously generous, so if you were wondering, yes, BEAST definitely is fantastic value for money.

To end of our meal on a sweet note, our table decided to order up a number of desserts to share. My two favourites were certainly the vanilla crème brulee and the Nutella cheesecake. In actual fact, that chocolaty cheesecake was one of the best I’ve ever tasted … and you know that I’m a chocolate connoisseur of note, right?

All in all, I really enjoyed BEAST … everything was enjoyable, from the tasty food and relaxed atmosphere, to the attentive service and trendy interior. I’d recommend it for a long, lazy lunch, or even a chilled-out date night. Go on and try it out for yourselves, Darlings … just be sure to arrive hungry.

Candice HB Darling bloggers are children who don't know the value of working hard for money and are giving my children false ideas of what kids their age are doing. Darling bloggers are presented with various freebies and living a life that's not connected to reality. Please get some real women blogging, if I wanted advice from children I would ask my daughter in Uni. There is more to life than junk food and the other shallow blog posts. How about promoting healthy eating, organisation tips, trending fashion from everyday SA stores - not everyone lives in "The North" of JHB. Darling needs diverse bloggers and non pretentious content.
