When was the last time that eating out became an elegant, exciting experience for you? You know … where you got all dressed up, drove down to a fancy restaurant and enjoyed an evening full of fine dining and exquisite company? (Have I got your attention yet?) I recently got to attend the re-opening of Aurelia’s at Emperors Palace … and my experience was nothing short of spectacular!

I’m not usually the type to go all out when it comes to eating out (that’s really sad to say isn’t it?). But I have to admit, when I heard about the re-opening of Aurelia’s, I decided to take full advantage of the experience. (I may have even bought a new outfit … don’t judge me!) Anyway, Aurelia’s is situated in the Peermont D’Oreale Grande Hotel (which we all know is absolutely stunning!) … so you’ve already got an idea of what to expect from the restaurant itself.

Aurelia’s has gone through a major makeover – from the décor and design to the menu … even the kitchen area has been expanded. To me, the restaurant still has that elegant, warm look but now with a touch of modernism (and did I mention the stunning patio leading into the hotel’s pool area?). Though I’m sure what you’re more excited about (as was I) is the food … so let’s get down to it.

Not only does the restaurant give you the option of canapes and desserts but also small plates and large plates (which is basically starters and main meals). For the small plates, my fiancé Brenden and I (you know he goes everywhere with me) decided to go with the Ostrich Bobotie Ravioli, which is accompanied by pasta sheets, dukka spiced butternut, sultanas, micro shoots and shebo relish. It had a rich flavour to it (not that I expected anything else) and the Ostrich was really tender … so good!

For the large plates, Brenden went with the Red Wine Braised Karoo Lamb Shank whereas I decided to try the Spinach and Ricotta Maultaschen. The mains are quite generous and filling … and I really enjoyed the veggie option. Brenden definitely enjoyed the shank and says the meat just fell off the bone (sounds mouth-watering, right?) For dessert, we decided to try the Chocolate Torte (obviously!), which is dark chocolate, raspberry macaroons, sour cherries, sugar ribbons, almond and pistachio mousse and wild berries (and yes, it was as amazing as it sounds!).

The entire experience was truly enjoyable and the food was scrumptious (I may have overdone it a bit but you only live once). All in all, it’s definitely something to check out! Oh, and don’t forget, for bookings and info on their prices, just give them a call.
