Darlings I have found the hair salon of my dreams! I know I have reviewed quite a few salons in the past few years but this one is definitely my favourite so far. You know that feeling when you’re house hunting and you walk into ‘the’ place that just speaks to you and says; “hey you, this is where you want to live”? Well that is the feeling I had after my very first visit to Fugo. I got that tingly feeling in my hair (because where else would I get it?) and I knew that this was the place for me. From the ultra cool decor and super friendly staff to the innovative in-salon and home-care products Fugo Salon has it all and I can’t wait to go back.

So before I continue on my merry way waxing lyrical about Fugo I feel that I should confess something to all of you. I have not cut my hair in almost a year (true story). It’s not that I’m growing it out (my hair grows really quickly) or that I don’t believe in haircuts it’s more that I haven’t found a place that has made me feel one hundred percent comfortable to go ‘under the scissors”. The truth is I have been waiting all year to go back to my most favourite hair salon in Cape Town so I can get my hair cut but that hasn’t proved to be a practical solution as my visits to Cape Town are always spent catching up with family and friends – not in a salon chair. Anyway to make a long story boring I have decided that Fugo is the one and I can’t wait to make a booking to have my hair cut there next month.

But enough about my hair, let’s talk about the salon! The specialist hair salon in Parktown North is all kinds of funky and an absolute pleasure to visit. The green and white salon is located on the second floor of Parktown Quarter and boasts beautiful wall-to-wall glass sliding doors which can be opened in summer to give an open-air salon feel. When I visited I sat in the far corner of the salon and loved that I could feel a cool breeze on my skin as I watched the traffic whizz by below. If you hate small and dark salons then Fugo’s airy and fresh atmosphere is just what the doctor ordered.

The salon also has a comfy waiting area where stylists can consult with their clients before their appointment, a retail area which is stocked with some incredible products that I have never been exposed to before, a main salon area where the magic happens and a separate wash and colour area where stylists can do the dirty work away from the maddening crowd. I thought it was quite clever to have a separate and quiet colouring area because it allows your stylist to chat to you about your colour without being drowned up by hairdryers, traffic noise and ringing phones at reception.

And then there was my fabulous stylist, Tamrin. She was the fairy in charge of my hair when I visited Fugo and she just blew me away. We started my appointment off with a consultation in the waiting area and Tamarin assessed the quality of my hair, chatted to me about the products I was using at home as well as my main concerns about my hair. She even assessed my face shape so she could discuss what hair styles would work for me which is something I have never experienced before. She made me feel super comfortable and excited about my hair and recorded everything in my personal client file so we could assess my progress after each visit.

She also recommended some fabulous evo products for me to try at home which I am now completely besotted with (but more on that later as I am doing a full review on the evo range in the weeks to come). I was also treated to a great in-salon treatment which Tamrin ‘prescribed’ especially for my hair’s needs. After my hair was squeaky clean and soft I made my way to the stylist chair for a blow-dry where I opted to forgo my usual straight and sleek look for a more full bodied look with lots of soft curls. Tamarin did a stellar job and I was beyond happy with my hair and how it felt after my treatment.

If I haven’t sold you just yet then just know that Fugo is not like most salons out there. The salon is owned and run by One Beauty Brands, hair care specialists and distributers of Brazilian Blowout and evo products in South Africa. The stylists who work at the salon have all undergone intense training on how to use the One Beauty Brand products and this level of product knowledge really does give you an exceptional in-salon and at-home experience with the products. They are able to recommend exactly what your hair needs to stay healthy and looking great. If you are stuck in a rut with your hair I would highly recommend you visit them for a little inspiration soon!
