Darlings, so many cool activities in Joburg require a deep pocket, but there are certain things you can enjoy for just under R200 (yes, for real) … worry not, for I have compiled just the list for all you budget-conscious explorers!
1. Maboneng’s Poolside – Swim In The Inner City!
This is not your typical backyard pool area, but one on a rooftop with an Italian theme. Expect to , beat the heat with refreshing drinks (the Aperol Spritz being their trademark) and peruse a menu of appetising light meals on wooden tasting boards (in the shape of the pool).
Where: 281 Commissioner Street, Maboneng Precinct (through the big metal gate), Johannesburg.
When: Thursday to Sunday from 12:00 to 22:00.
How Much: R60 to R150.
2. Get Lost In The ‘A-Maize-Ing’ Honeydew Mazes.
The main attraction here is where you get lost and find your way back by answering a quiz. Picnics, kids’ parties as well as company and school events are a norm here.
Where: 82 Boland Road, Honeydew, Johannesburg.
When: Weekends and public holidays from 10:00 to 17:00.
How Much: R80 per child (under 16) and R120 per adult.
3. Sightseeing In Jozi
Our city is so big with plenty of destinations to see, so why not get on Johannesburg’s red, open-top City Sightseeing Bus and take a tour of the trademark spots in Joburg? It’s a great option if you’re looking for fun things to do on a budget and there’s running commentary to get you acquainted with the city.
Where: Tours around Soweto, Newtown, Braamfontein, Goldreef City, Constitutional Hill and Carlton Centre, amongst others.
When: Operational seven days a week.
How Much: R150 per adult, R80 per child (ages 5 to 15).
4. Beerhouse In Fourways
This colourful watering hole serves up an impressive armory of local, international and craft beers for the thirsty, beer-hungry masses … 99 beer bottles serve as decoration and patrons have the opportunity to taste and win those beers!
Where: 1 Sunset Ave, corner Witkoppen Road, Fourways, Johannesburg.
When: Monday to Thursday from 12:00 to midnight, weekends are 12:00 ‘til late.
How Much: Prices range from R10 to R160 depending on beer types and specials.
5. Top Of The World View At Carlton Centre
Serving as one of the tallest buildings in Africa at a whooping 223m and 50 floors, the 50th floor is where you get an uninterrupted bird’s eye view of downtown Joburg.
Where: Carlton Centre, 150 Commissioner Street, Johannesburg.
When: Monday to Friday and public holidays from 09:00 to 18:00, Saturday from 09:00 to 17:00, Sunday from 09:00 to 14:00.
How Much: R15 (adults) and R10 (children under 12).
6. The Bush Paintball Range
Paintballing is one fun and adrenaline-filled way to get tough and release your inner army self. What better way to test your combat skills than at a range with 7 different combat ready fields?
Where: Plot 48, Corner Gemstone and R511, Doornrandje, Tshwane
When: Open 7 days a week, just call to make a booking.
How much: R120 per person, included a 3-hour session and all the gear needed.
7. The Goodman Gallery
If you love gallery exhibitions and art in general, the Goodman Gallery is a must visit! The gallery also hosts exhibition opening nights where you can look forward to socializing with other art lovers over a glass of wine.

8. Golf Reef City Theme Park
When was the last time you reconnected with your inner child and went to an amusement park? Golf Reef City is the prefect venue for entertainment and adventure!
Where: Corner Northern Parkway and Data Crescent, Ormonde, Johannesburg
When: Open 09h30 - 17h00 from Wednesday to Sunday and all public Holidays (except Christmas Day.) During public Gauteng school holidays the park is open Monday to Sunday from 09h30 to 17h00.

9. The Locrate Market
For an exquisite food, design [art and fashion] and an amazing experience, is the place to go. You can even choose to go trail for a breakfast venue, have lunch at the market then explore Soweto with Soweto experience.
Where: Vilakazi Precinct, Orlando West, Kudu Street/Moema Street.
When: First Sunday of every month from 10am to 6pm

10. Bounce!
Something about trampolines appeals to anyone and everyone. Experience all the adrenalin filled fun at Bounce Inc., with all the fun and none of the hard landing. Jump high while landing safely, softly and putting gravity to the test!
