Did you know that the average woman consumes an average of nearly two kilograms of lipstick during her lifetime through drinking, eating and kissing? I didn’t! When I read this statistic I threw up in my mouth a little bit because I’m pretty sure the stuff in lipstick is not made to be consumed. I shudder to think what is currently lurking in my body from all those days I thought that a little pop of colour on my lips was a good idea. But don’t worry -  I’m not just here to be Peggy Pessimist - I totally have a solution for you as well: an all natural lipstick that not only promises to deliver products made from the finest of organic, natural and proven safe chemical ingredients but that also offers a range of beautiful shades that will allow you to switch lipstick brands with ease. Here’s why you should start using Karen Murrell Natural Lipsticks today!

The Karen Murrell range hails from New Zealand and was started by Karen when she realised that there was a gap in the market for a natural lipstick that was environmentally friendly, yet as good as any top international brand. So she set about formulating her very own natural lipstick that she herself would fall in love with. KM’s slogan (which is printed on the side of each lipstick) is “nothing nasty touches my lips” and I love that the KM Lipsticks are made from natural based ingredients and that they do not contain any mineral oils, animal-based material, parabens or preservatives.

And, because the lipsticks are made with ingredients that are actually good for you and your lips the more you use KM Lipstick the better condition your lips will be in! Every time I have used my KM lipstick it leaves my lips feeling soft and nourished – which is not the case with some of the bigger brands' lipsticks. And, as if that wasn’t enough you will also be thrilled to hear that the lipsticks are long lasting on lips and smell and taste fantastic. But, best of all when you’re using KM you don’t have to worry about accidently swallowing your lipstick because it’s totally safe!

Some of the active ingredients in the lipstick include Candelilla (a plant that grows in the semi-arid environment of northern Mexico), Evening Primrose oil (which is rich in omega-6, soothing and very moisturising) and Castor oil (which is milled into the lipstick). The KM range offers 17 fabulous colours for you to indulge in including a Moisture Stick (a natural lip balm treatment conditioner that is pure hydration in a stick), a range of pretty pinks, reds, browns and more. Some of my favourites include the Pink Starlet, Violet Mousse, Red Shimmer, Coral Dawn and Sand Storm.

I am also obsessed with the KM packaging - it’s too cute. The colour of the box matches the shade of lipstick inside and features beautiful original illustrations of whimsical looking women on the front. The packaging and lipstick canisters are also eco-friendly and biodegradable which means they won’t harm the environment in any way. The lipstick canisters are made from PLA (polylactic acid), a corn resin based material that will start to dissolve back into the ground within 100 days, and the outer packaging is a 100 percent recyclable box made from trees and printed with soya ink.

The KM lipsticks are distributed in South Africa by Infinity Skincare and are available from online beauty store 27Pinkx.co.za at R359 each.
