I realised a long time ago that I would never be very good at dieting. Dieting means giving up on snacking opportunities and if there’s one thing you should know about me it’s that snacks are very important to me. I never ever go on a road trip, flight or so much as a 5-minute errand run to the shops without snacks because my level of hunger is directly linked to my mood. But why am I telling you this? Because finally, finally I have found a place that will serve me snacks while getting a pedicure. I have always dreamed of such a place but have never been offered more than a measly cup of tea or glass of water when being pampered. But no more Darlings, because thanks to Aura Skincare Clinic I can now chew, munch and sip while being pampered and it is glorious!
Hidden away in a somewhat unassuming building on 6th Avenue Parkhurst you will find the tiny but oh-so-pretty Aura skincare clinic – a place where pampering is taken to the nth degree. Chic and modern decor with touches of antique elegance makes Aura a great place to hang out with your mom, sister or girlfriends for an afternoon of pampering. The beauty salon offers clients a range of treatments including facials, massages, waxing, IPL Hair Removal and a full menu of manicure and pedicure treatments. But the best treatment of all is their Champagne Deluxe Spa Pedicure (R350) which includes snacks, champers and of course a pedicure with all the trimmings!
When I arrived at Aura I was ushered to the mani and pedi area where I was invited to take a seat in one of their massage chairs (that’s right massage chairs!) I plonked myself down and immediately started to unwind as the chair massaged my back, neck and shoulders – what a treat. A few moments later the therapist brought my tray of goodies through and I could hardly contain my excitement when I saw that it featured some of my all-time favourite things to snack on; a jar of dry wors, a bowl of almonds and a jar of sweet liquorice ropes. She then poured me a glass of champagne and started my 2-hour treatment.
I must say the whole experience was truly sensational – not only were my feet scrubbed, wrapped, soaked and rubbed to perfection but being able to sip and nibble while enjoying my pedicure and the massage chair was absolutely heavenly. I don’t think I have ever been more relaxed during a pedicure and I would highly recommend the treatment to anyone who needs a good pamper. It also makes for a fabulous gift for a special lady in your life.
And, if you really want to splash out then you can go for the Caviar Champagne Pedicure - a step up from the one I had which includes a foot soak that consists of caviar shaped balls that you soak your feet in for ten minutes. My pedicure included a foot wrap and was absolutely divine as well but it’s always nice to have options or change it up between the two every time you go for a pedi.
Something else I love about Aura is that they have an extensive range of different colours and nail polish brands available. No matter your preference - Essie, Shellac, Vinylux or Gelish - they’ve got it all! I opted for a beautiful blue Shellac polish and loved the results.
