Last year May I wrote about an incredible nail artist named Kelly from Ma Cherie Nails. At the time she was making a name for herself with her mobile nail art services. Now, while I don’t often make a habit of writing about the same find twice this time I’m making an exception. You see, Kelly has stepped it up a notch and now has her very own salon, along with a brand new partner. The super cute Ma Cherie Nail Salon not only offers incredible nail art but also manis and pedis to die for. Kelly invited me to the brand new salon to give their Valentine’s Day Manicure a try and to scope out the new space. All I can say is that if you are looking for the coolest Valentine’s Day spoil in February then you HAVE to pay them a visit and give it a try (to the men reading this: great gift alert!)

The new salon in Bryanston offers incredible nail art as well as deluxe manicures and pedicures to the discerning client. As I mentioned, Kelly has added another talented nail artist to her team and boy is she good; she trained at the same place as Kelly in Taiwan and they make a super powerful duo. Together the two create some super amazing nail art using only the very best imported gel polish. I love that the Ma Cherie team puts loads of research into the type of gel they use for the nail art, as well as the other products they use in the salon. Because the team only wants to use the best they opt to import Presto gel as the colours don’t fade and the gel is very strong. As for the natural polish for normal manis and pedis they have opted to use the oh-so-awesome Zoya nail lacquers.

One of my favourite things about the new space is that it is a haven for ladies who want to get their nails done together. The salon houses two mani stations and three pedi stations so you and your ladies can book together and chat up a storm while getting your nails done; the salon can treat two clients at a time. Of course, depending on which treatments you choose you can add a third friend to your pamper party. The great news is that the nail salon is also located in a space just above hair salon, Love Hair, so you can get your hair done while you wait for one of your mates to finish up. Talk about a one-stop-shop!

The Ma Cherie menu includes a range of treatments and I love that the ‘menu’ allows to you custom make your treatment by adding a range of additional extras such as gel polish or nail art. The basic treatments available include the Express Mani (removal of the old skin around the nails and a basic file and shape – R120), Classic Mani (express treatment plus a scrub, mask, file and natural polish paint – R200), Exclusive Mani (express treatment plus a peel, nourish hand balm, 10 min massage, file and natural polish paint – R280) and the Exclusive Pedi (express treatment plus callus removal, peel, foot balm, 10 min massage, file and natural polish paint – R350). Gel polish can also be added to all the treatments at an additional fee.

As for the nail art this can be added to any gel treatment and you can choose from a range of designs available or bring a picture of something you would like. The price is calculated per finger. Hand drawn art is charged at R10 – R50 per finger depending on the design, Rhinestones at R1 – R20 per finger, Studs at R1 – R10 per finger, Stickers at R1 – R20 per finger and Glitter at R5 per colour.

As I mentioned I paid a visit to Ma Cherie to try the Valentine’s Day Mani which includes an Express Mani and Valentine’s Day themed nail art. I got to choose from a selection of four different Valentine’s Day themed designs. I chose the fun and playful ‘I wrote a letter to my love’ theme (see pictures below) and am now completely besotted with it. I also loved that the options available offer something for everyone; there’s the classic red and animal print with heart detail set, the pink lips watercolour set and the delicious chocolate set. All you need to do is choose one and your nail artist will create the design on your nails. The Valentine’s Day package is R500 for a full set of nails and can be booked before Valentine’s Day as a treat for yourself or a special someone. The gel used will last about a month so it’s totally worth it! Vouchers for the package can be used until March 2015. Ma Cherie is open Monday to Saturday from 09:00.

Thabie I don't dispute the fact that Kelly is super talented but her customer service is appalling. She was late for my 9am appointment and didn't seem to think she had to apologize to me because she was stuck in traffic. I had booked a full service pedicure. all Kelly did was paint my toe nails. Literally. She removed my existing colour and re-painted with a little pathetic flower on the big toes and let me go. I was so confused, so much that I thought all she does is paint. I contacted her later to ask and she was apologetic because she forgot what I was there for. Unfortunately she works in the same place as my beauty therapist who is excellent and values her customers.
