I have a confession to make; I have a little bit of an underwear obsession. I just can’t stop buying pretty bra and panty sets and I’m starting to run out of drawer space for my precious collection. But that’s not all there is to this story. You see, up until a few weeks ago I’d never really bothered to find out what my actual bra size is and I’m ashamed to say that I was pretty much just winging it this whole time (gasp!) The thing is, I know I’m not alone because you, yes YOU, the fabulous lady reading this has probably been going on your merry way with the same sheepish secret. Most of the women I know have completely guesstimated their bra size and have stuck with said made-up size for most of their adult life. And then it hit me – I spend so much money on the stuff I may as well make sure it looks the best it possibly can on my body! I’d had enough of slipping bra straps and underwire digging into my poor ribs; it was time to make a change. So, I took a giant leap and booked an appointment at Pandora Bra Studio and it was probably the best decision I’ve made in a long, long while.
The only thing you really need to know about the little bra studio in Parkmore is that they’re the official breast whisperers of Johannesburg. But seriously, if these ladies can’t make you look and feel sensational in your underwear then Queen isn’t the best glam rock group in the history of ever. The South African network of professional bra fitters really take bra fitting seriously and they’re able to find the ‘perfect fit bra’ for women of all shapes and sizes.
I was rather impressed to find out that their range extends from 30 inch to 58 inch back sizes and A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H,I and J cup sizes – which means they can find the perfect fit for you no matter what your size (and their bras for bigger busted ladies are just as pretty as the smaller sizes!) What’s more, they have over sixty different styles to choose from - including underwire, non-underwire, full support, cotton, minimizers, lacy, sensual, sports bras and the exclusive "MagicLift" range from America. Their bras are imported from all over the world and they only stock the very best. The bras are priced from about R500 but the quality is quite something and they’ll last you years if you look after them properly.
I also loved that each and every shopping experience at Pandora is done under the supervision of a Pandora expert. This isn’t the kind of place where you stroll in, select something cute and frilly and strut out. Clients are treated like VIPs and each and every time you get a personalised, one-on-one fitting with an expert so you have the very best bra for you. So, whether you have a problem with your bra riding up your back, bulging under the arm, shoulder straps slipping or any discomfort at all they can help!
Your fitting will begin with a few simple little measurements to get your consultant up to speed with your size and from there you try on bras with her until you find one (or five) that you love. Now I know what you’re thinking – “eek trying on bras in front of a stranger, how scary!” But it really wasn’t, because the ladies make you feel one hundred percent comfortable and there’s a wonderful nurturing and caring vibe in the place that will set your mind at ease as soon as you step inside. I loathe gym changing rooms and even I was super comfortable the whole time – pinky promise!
The studio is open by appointment only so make sure you book before you go – you should be able to make a booking during normal retail hours in the week and on Saturdays. So there you have it – book a consultation today. Your breasts will thank you. Visit .
