Today’s find is by no means a new one – in fact, Mastrantonio is a well-loved establishment that’s been around for quite some time! However, it’s new for me, as I only recently tried it out. If I’m honest, I’m now kicking myself that I took so long to get round to dining at this intimate little Illovo eatery – they serve up some of the very best pastas around!
So last week I decided to pop into Mastrantonio with a girlfriend of mine for a quick wine and dine at lunchtime. As soon as we arrived, the kind staff made us feel comfortable and well looked after. We opted to sit outside on the balcony, which boasts a lovely view of Illovo Square. To start off, my friend and I ordered a round of the restaurant’s house white wine.
On the menu, you’ll find a variety of antipastos, salads, meat, poultry, seafood, pastas and risottos. And, I’ve got to say, that some of their pasta dishes are so mouthwatering! Think traditional handmade pasta served with napoletana sauce or ragu, or linguine with fresh porcini mushrooms in a garlic and olive oil sauce. Sounds delicious, right?
After much contemplation, I decided to go for of the restaurant’s signature pastas, the Linguine Pescatore, which is what they describe as a “classic Italian fisherman’s pasta”. My friend, on the other hand, went for the Pesce Del Giorno; a fillet of fresh line fish of the day. Our food was prepared quickly and we agreed that both dishes were fantastic! I thoroughly enjoyed my pasta, which was tossed with fresh clams, calamari tubes, line fish and a queen prawn.
Sadly, we didn’t have any room left for dessert, but I’d definitely like to return to Mastrantonio for a taste of some of their other delicious pastas as well as their divine desserts. If you’re looking for a lovely, laidback place to tuck into top-class pasta, this is your spot– go and check it out!
