I think it is pretty clear from the crazy cold weather we are currently experiencing that winter is here (sigh). I walked out of my house this morning and felt like I had just stepped into one of those walk-in fridges you find in bottle stores. That’s right guys, right now Joburg is one big walk-in bottle store fridge! As awesome as those fridges are on scorching hot summer days (I can’t be the only person who finds any excuse to go shopping for beer in summer just so I can stand in there and soak up the cool air) no one in their right mind would want to walk around inside one of them all day long. Now, while you are thinking about how bloody cold you are spare a thought for your poor pet pooch! I know they have fur coats but there is no doubt that they must be feeling the cold too – especially the little ones. Which is where today’s find comes in – a stunning doggy fashion and lifestyle company that is geared towards keeping your pet pooch warm and super stylish this winter. Here’s why you and your furry friend are going to love Dog’s Life.

Dog’s Life is one of the largest pet fashion and accessory brands in South Africa and they offer everything from warm woolly jerseys and pet collars to bedding and fashion accessories for your pooch. When it comes to clothing and accessories the brand mainly specialises in smaller dog breeds but there are a few items (like bedding) that are also suitable for larger dogs. So, if your little pooch has a personality that is larger than life then this is definitely the brand for you! I also love that all the items are personally designed by owner and founder Venessa (a dog lover of note). She has meticulously crafted the brand to suit the South African consumer and their pups and frequently travels overseas to source materials and suss out trends to bring back to South Africa. The result is a brand that offers something for every type of customer – whether they are wild and wacky or more conservative.

I also love that the team at Dog’s Life has thought of everything when it comes to ensuring your dog is comfy and safe when wearing their products. All their garments are constructed to make sure that there’s nothing that can scratch your dog or cut off circulation to the legs, tummy and neck. Design features like seamless stitching, press stud buttons, stretch material and more make sure that your dog will love his Dog’s Life garment just as much as you do! But it’s not just the clothes that are super clever – they have also thought of you and your dog when designing their bedding. Their bedding is designed to fit with your style whilst also keeping your dog warm and comfy during nap times. For example, I love that the beds come with hidden zips that allow you remove the cover and wash it separately from the mattress and that some of the beds are made with a super cute but durable material that is gentle on your dog’s skin but still able to withstand your dog’s movements.

I got to see and play with some of the products in person and absolutely loved them. Some of my favourite items for winter include the grey cape with star detail (a super cute cape-like woolly number with a big white star on the back – from R235), light grey hooded tee with polka dot hood (a stunning hoody with the words; “Huge in personality” emblazoned on the back – from R169) and the grey and white wooly pully (a super warm pull-over with fleece on the inside and a stunning grey and white stripe pattern – from R175). I am also in love with their PVC webbing collars (especially the black and white damask design) which come in all sorts of colours and patterns (from R30).

Apart from the winter warmer clothing they also offer all sorts of cute outfits for when you want to dress your pooch to the nines. Sure, dressing up your dog isn’t for everyone but if you are the type of lass who wants your pet to make a statement then this is definitely the place to look! For a more subtle look you can invest in one of the oh-so-cute hair bows which come in every colour and pattern imaginable (priced from R50 for two). And, for dogs who love the outdoors, there are super awesome peak caps to keep the sun out of their eyes.
