Pure Bliss In The Heart Of The City

Few things beat going to a spa … especially if one gets to do so on a Friday afternoon (hello, weekend!). Anyway Darlings, that’s exactly what I did a while back at Urban Bliss Day Spa and I can’t wait to tell you about my experience!

Urban Bliss Day Spa is hidden in plain sight … it’s on Barry Hertzog Avenue (keep your eyes peeled, I drove right past it the first time) but, once you get inside, you’ll wonder what you ever did without this place. First of all, the venue is stunning … the design of each treatment room relates to a different city in the world – imagine having a massage in Paris? (Have I captured your attention?) The spa is actually in a house but you’d never think so once you’ve stepped inside – whoever did their interior design is a genius!

What really sets Urban Bliss apart from other spas is that their treatments are fully customisable. Owner Ayesha Rajah (who has over 20 years of experience in the skincare and beauty industry!) explained that, sometimes, you need more than one treatment at a time … maybe you’re feeling stressed so you’ve gone for a massage when you actually need a facial to deal with your stress-induced breakout at the same time (it happens) … the therapists here get that, and they’ll design a treatment just for you.

Anyway, let me get down to the treatment I had … while we love the hustle and bustle that is the Joburg lifestyle, sometimes it’s nice to take a break and treat yourself. That’s exactly why the Hong Kong Express Facial seemed like the best way to do just that. (It’s perfect for the girl on-the-go!)

I was asked to put a robe on after I removed my top in their gorgeous change room (don’t stress, that’s all you have to remove … so you can still keep your bra on). I received my facial in the New York room. My treatment started off with a cleanse, followed by a toning and then exfoliation. This involves a double action exfoliator with spherical beads and Kyolin (which draws impurities from the pores) … amazing!

The mask is then applied for several minutes, and the best part is that it’s customised to your individual needs … I used the product range for oily skin. The mask is then removed using a warm cloth and a moisturiser – Phytomer’s Thirst Relief Cream is then applied to the face to finish off the treatment. I noticed a glow on my skin as soon as I got up and my face felt really soft and supple. As strange as it may sound, time seemed to slow down while I received my facial … and I felt so relaxed afterwards. Needless to say, I’m definitely going for this facial again!

Darlings, you’ve got to try Urban Bliss out for yourselves. When you’re done with your treatment, why not take advantage of their hanging chairs that swing just above the dip pool? Urban Bliss has plans to open up a coffee shop soon so just picture it … you’re feeling blissed out from your treatment, swinging above the pool, dipping your toes into the water with a cappuccino in hand … sounds like a little slice of heaven to me!

Lauren Hart Wow, this spa is just down the road from me, and I have never seen it! Would LOVE to give it a try! My best way to relax? Sitting in a quiet spot in my garden with a good book, just listening to nature! I do love to indulge in a relaxing spa day once every couple of months too! #holdingthumbs
