I suppose if you think about it, coffee and cycling kind of go together. I mean, caffeine is as good a pre-workout as any (in my book, at least). What might seem a strange combo at first comes together beautifully in the Melrose Arch cycle shop and coffee bar all in one – Darlings, meet The Grind Coffee Company

Having heard so many great things about this place, I wandered into the store/café on a Thursday, expecting it to be relatively empty … I could not have been more wrong – it was buzzing! I made a beeline straight for the counter and ordered an almond milk cappuccino. It’s great to know that those who aren’t so into dairy are catered for (sure, at a bit of an extra cost but it’s so worth it).

When I say they were packed, I really mean it. I went up to a complete stranger and asked if he’d mind sharing his table with me. He did not (well, if he did, he was a great liar), so onto the comfy couch I sat and began admiring the look and feel of the space. The coffee tables are made with bicycle wheels, the actual coffee machine is adorned with a stunning graffiti image and there are bikes and helmets on the walls. Add grey paint and wooden finishes and you have yourself a fab-looking space.

My coffee arrived, and quite quickly, I might add … after one sip I was in caffeinated heaven. Darlings, I have to confess that up until that moment, I’d never had an almond milk coffee before and I’ve got to say that I might be a convert. Sure, it’s not as creamy as regular milk but it’s definitely just as delicious and gave my Thursday the kick-start it needed.

If you’re not that into coffee (we can’t be friends), don’t worry – they've got plenty of other options on the menu, like hot chocolate, speciality teas, cold pressed juices, and smoothies. I know what I’m going for next time – the Rise N Grind, which is a shot of espresso, banana, chia seeds, granola, full cream milk and collagen protein.

They also serve up a delicious-looking banana and date loaf, a range of muffins and brownies if you’re feeling peckish when you visit this place. Oh, and if you’ve been scrolling through Instagram lately, this is the place that serves up The Grind Cone, which is exactly what it sounds like … coffee in a cone that you’ve got about three minutes to drink … yum!
