Darlings, our Chief Entertainment Officer, Ryan, is always up for a fine dining experience (you might’ve noticed this by now) … and if that means driving a bit of a distance to have one … well, what’s wrong with a little adventure? Now that Ryan has sampled their new menu, it’s safe to say that you should hop into the car as soon as possible to try Basil’s Fine Dining Restaurant at the Protea Hotel Ranch Resort for yourself!
Ryan told me that it’s always a treat to return to the Protea Hotel Ranch Resort in Polokwane … with its unrivalled hospitality and amazing service, how could it be anything but? He was, however, not at the hotel for the wildlife this time around … Ryan and his wife, Barbara, were invited to a chef’s table, which was held at Basil’s Fine Dining Restaurant within the resort.
The dinner was hosted by chef Dan and his team, who take the concept of gourmet dining to a new level … so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the meal was nothing short of a gastronomic sensation!
By now you’re probably wondering what was on the menu, aren’t you? Get ready to drool like I did when Ryan told me that they were treated to everything from salmon tartar blinis and gorgonzola gnocchi to beef fillet bordelaise and mouth-watering king prawns. Dessert was a South African take on a British tea – rooibos panna cotta served with honey gel cubes (who even comes up with these delicious ideas?). Each course was paired with a wine, and Ryan and Barbara drank everything from bubbly and merlot to petit rouge.
Beyond the amazing food that Basil's serves, the resort itself offers a range of fantastic facilities and is more than ready to host wedding ceremonies, conferences, weekends away, wildlife excursions and so much more!
