I Paid a Visit to the Hair Whisperer!

I’m a little overprotective of my hair and am incredibly fussy about the way it’s cut – so much so that picking a new hairdresser is even more stressful than picking a man to date. When you’ve had as many bad haircuts as I have you tend to become a little obsessive about the credentials of your hairdresser, and will do anything to make sure you’re not going to leave the salon looking like a yetti. I’m not saying that I’ve staked out a salon to see if anyone came out looking worse than they went in, but I’ve thought about it, and that’s pretty far down the crazy path already. And so, based on my impossibly high standards, I hope that you’ll trust me when I say that I’ve discovered the most divine hair salon in Parkhurst and am simply smitten with everything about it. If you’re looking for a new place to tame your tresses you absolutely have to check out Sculpt Hair!

Tucked away behind a purple graffitied wall on 6th Avenue you’ll find the stunning Sculpt Hair. The salon has a funky vibe and you’re made to feel right at home from the moment you walk inside. There’s an ultra comfy indoor waiting area for customers who arrive a little bit early, as well as a few tables outside in the garden where you can take a load off before or after your treatments.

Sculpt offers all the little perks you’d expect from a top-notch hair salon (like refreshing drinks to sip on during your treatments and a head massage at the shampoo station) but it’s mostly the vibe of the staff that make this place so special. Everyone just seems so damn content to be there and so confident in what they’re doing that you can’t help but feel relaxed and self-assured. I also loved the laid-back atmosphere of the place - some hair salons can be incredibly intimidating but Sculpt is relaxed, welcoming and they don’t shove product down your throat every time you go.

I was treated to a wonderfully relaxing shampoo and treatment as well as cut and blow dry by stylist Yolandi (who is nothing short of a hair whisperer!) and came away a little in love with the way she did my hair. I have naturally curly hair (which I always wear straight) and she gave me tips on how to wear it curly without looking like I’ve just stepped out of a wind tunnel. The salon also specialises in hair for special occasions and has developed a bit of reputation as the go-to salon for weddings.

I also loved that the salon offers manicures and pedicures. So you can get your nails done while your stylist is sorting out your hair – now that’s multi-tasking! And, for all those curly-haired girls out there, they also offer the coveted Brazilian Blow-dry but the great news is it’s so much more affordable here. Regular customers get treated to a special rate of R800 per Brazilian if you go every 3 months – no matter how long your hair. Brazilian Blow-dries usually set you back in excess of R1500 every few months so that’s a huge saving! The salon also offers a complementary treatment with every colour service.

Crystal Madeleine so true! It's so expensive and you never know what you're getting until you go through! That's why reviews are so important! Usually only try a new place if it comes recommended.

Madeleine Crystal, I know exactly what you are saying...I would rather change my Gynae than change my hair dresser...so much so that I've been going to the same lady since I was 11 (now 43)...even though I dont go often I still find my lady has become extremely expensive. I am a commercial insurance underwriter (ps - I also do Velocity Media's insurance) and recently took on a new client who also has a Salon...so I thought why the hell not and went for a tint, highlights, cut and blow and was pleasantly surprised.
