Darlings, lately we’ve been all about positive vibes (perhaps it has something to do with this chilly, ‘stay-in-bed’ kind of weather – we are constantly in need of a pick-me-up). Anyway, that’s why Kate, our awesome guest blogger, has some advice for all the mommies out there. Enjoy, and Happy Friday!
Much talk has been made of the ‘Dad Bod’ and celebrities such as John Krasinski, Adam Sandler and even Matthew McConaughey have proudly embraced it – having gone from six-pack superheroes to paunched and happy in a matter of weeks after the arrival of their little ones.
So, if men can proudly jiggle their bellies and flaunt their fat, then I’m taking it upon myself to flaunt mine as well.
Introducing ‘The Mom Bod’. I’m rocking mine, and here’s why you should embrace yours too:
• It took nine months to achieve.
• It’s strong in ways that no mans is – after all, its physically housed and carried a human for almost a year.
• It deprived itself of caffeine, alcohol and sleep for a very long time. If your mom bod kind of still looks like your preggy bod – all it means is that you’re taking your time with everything you deprived it of while you were pregnant. Technically, that glass of Merlot is a reward for a job well done.
• Stretch marks are battle scars – they are proof that you held yourself together long enough to hold something within.
• There are muscles you didn’t even know you had – that are used for everything from wrestling a 10kg child during a nappy change to playing kissing catches on the lawn.
• During pregnancy your body literally gives up on you and caters only to your unborn child – you retain fluid, grow facial hair, your bones and teeth become brittle, your hair falls out and your skin stretches to its limits.
So next time you pull your leggings a little bit higher, just to cover your looser tummy, or buy that beige bra in an odd size, just remember: You worked hard for this. Rock that mom bod!
