Darlings, Voodoo Lily Café has been around for quite some time and has always been one of my go-to restaurants when I need somewhere casual to head to for a meal. They’ve recently undergone a bit of a revamp and they’re looking (and tasting) pretty good!

Voodoo Lily is nestled in the cosy suburb of Birdhaven (right opposite Planet Fitness if you’re looking for a landmark). The best thing about this place is that their food is organic and sustainable whenever possible – something I’m totally into!

They’re under new ownership so things are a bit different as of late … before I tell you about all the delicious eats and treats they have on offer, let me let you in on the fact that they’ve redone the restaurant and now boast an intimate, cosy deck where you can dine by candlelight away from the main part of the restaurant. They’ve also got a new deli section, where you can stock up on Voodoo’s delicious goodies for home ... think tasty ciabatta and rye breads, Bean There coffee, Richard Bosman cold meats and so much more!

Their menu has changed a bit, too, but not to worry – all the old favourites are still there! What’s new is the option to make your own breakfast, which is pretty great (I always get a bit too creative when I’m given this opportunity), the tapas menu for dinnertime snacks and, if you’re on the Banting bandwagon, you’ll be glad to know that they’ve added extra items to their Banting-friendly menu!

My list of favourites here is pretty long … for breakfast I absolutely love to have the Sterns Shakshouka with a creamy cappuccino on the side. If I’m feeling extra-hungry at dinnertime, my favourite thing to eat is the Voodoo Burger … it’s a delicious free-range patty, served with roasted peppers, caramelised onions, rocket, local cheddar and mozzarella. Yum! Other go-to options include the Deconstructed Chicken Wrap, made from free-range chicken strips marinated in yoghurt, cumin, lemon zest and fresh coriander served with hummus, tomato, parsley and feta salsa, the Bunless Burger, which comes with avo and tomato salsa, fresh greens and sweet potato wedges and the Grilled Hake with mango, avo, rosa tomatoes, basil and coriander salsa on fresh mixed greens … can you tell I go here often? Don’t judge!

What I love about this place is that there are so many options for the health conscious – finding something that won’t break your budget or make your waistline bulge is no challenge at all! If you’re looking for a treat, though (we all deserve a little indulgence now and then, right?), don’t forget to have some of Pete’s Super Natural Ice Cream … last time I went, I had the Popcorn Cream with Torched Marshmallows and Honeycomb flavour – you’ve never tasted anything like it! But don’t take my word for it, try it out for yourself!

Say Hi to Voodoo Lily Café on .
