I am such a fan of tashas – no matter which of their restaurants I choose to visit, I am always guaranteed a fabulous meal. So when I heard that a Frenchified version of the famous tashas brand had opened in Hyde Park, I dragged Stephen and Kayla along with me to try it out!

Called tashas le parc, and boasting a new French-style menu, I can highly recommend this as a venue for meeting friends for breakfast or lunch. I adore going there for dinner, but am slightly put off by the queues. On a good day, I’ll put my name on the list and pop into Exclusive Books for a browse. On a bad day, I’ll head somewhere else for a meal (and usually regret my decision afterwards!)

The menu is mouth-watering – Stephen’s le parc burger was phenomenal, and the crispy frites (french fries) were perfectly done. I had the Vegetarian Tart, which was heavenly, as well as half of Kayla’s Grilled Salmon (she fell asleep at the table!) While I was there, I tried some of their incredible ice-cream, which Stephen vows is among the best ice-cream in Joburg and can’t get enough of their Bacon, Brie, Cranberry and Rocket Sandwiches!

An absolute MUST is the Tea Menu! Choose between 2 ranges of imported French teas and add items from their Snack Menu or Patisserie Counter to complete the Parisian experience. I would highly recommend their beautifully-textured macaroons, delicate eclairs, perfectly formed petit fours and gorgeous range of cakes on offer.

FYI – you can also buy loaves of freshly baked bread to take home with you – everything from baguettes and croissants to ciabbattas and kitka. There is also a VERY comprehensive drinks menu comprising granitas, gelati caffe, coffees, wine, cocktails, champagne and spirits.

So much to love – hence the reason for the evening queues – and why it’s worth the wait!
