I thought I knew Melrose Arch pretty well, (I have spent way more time there than I should shopping up a storm) but what I didn’t know is that hidden way in the medical centre of the shopping Mecca is a fabulous spa of note! If you have never treated yourself to an hour or two of pampering at The Spa @Melrose then you are missing out! This fabulous little spa is well worth telling the world about and I thought it was high time that all you loyal Darlings found out about it.
The spa in the midst of one of Joburg’s most popular shopping districts offers visitors modern design with generous dollops of luxury. Walking into the spa you are greeted by the chic waiting area (complete with white leather chairs and a luxuriously soft rug) as well as the retail corner where you can shop for a wide range of professional products to take home with you. Just to the left of the retail area you will find the super stylish mani-pedi area which begs you to sit down for a while and take in the spectacular view of the Melrose Arch precinct and surrounding areas below. Upstairs you will find the treatment rooms and the rest of the spa's facilities which is, as they say. “where the magic happens.”
When I arrived I was asked to fill out a client form and was then ushered upstairs to my treatment room. The room itself was like something out of a dream – in the centre of the room stood two oversized massage beds which seemed almost dwarfed by the room’s incredibly high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling sliding door. To the right I found a small staircase which led me to a beautiful bathroom complete with a shower, bathtub and hair dressing station. I was also struck by how quiet the spa was and almost forgot I was anywhere near Melrose Arch. I also got to check out the rest of the treatment rooms and was rather impressed to see that they were all as beautiful as each other. The double treatment room that I was in can be used for couple’s massages and for the completely indulgent couple’s packages which allow you to make full use of the room’s facilities. I loved the sound of the Stress-away Body Ritual (which includes a body exfoliation and full body hot stone massage – R1500 for two people) and am currently trying to convince the boyfriend that we should visit them again soon!
Alas I was not there for a couple’s package but rather a 30 minute Back, Neck and Shoulder Massage (R290) which turned out to be just what I needed that day! The massage was sensational and I felt rejuvenated and ready to take on the world afterwards. If massages are your thing then you will love this place as they offer a pretty comprehensive menu of massages at reasonable prices – you can pop in for a quick 30 minute session and enjoy an Indian Head Massage or a Pressure Point Foot Massage for just R290, or stay a little while longer and unwind with a 90 minute Hot Stone Massage at R680. Compared to a lot of other spas in Joburg their prices are quite competitive and I love that they offer shorter treatment options, allowing you the opportunity to experience a more wallet-friendly pamper session. They also offer a range of Mama Mio Preggie Safe treatments including massages, facials and more.
The Spa @Melrose is a great place to go for a girl’s pamper day as they have plenty of space to accommodate you and your ladies at their pedi and mani stations – you can all get your nails done together while you sip on champers and reminisce about the good old days before work, boyfriends, husbands and kids took up all your time.
