Today’s find is one for the boys and the girls and trust me it’s a goodie! That’s right Darlings I, Joburg’s Darling, have found an ultra cool hair salon that both you and the man in your life (boyfriend, husband, brother, father, best friend) can go together! How often does that happen? The brand new trendy hair salon is cool enough for even the manliest man to appreciate and fabulous enough for the girliest girl to enjoy. Here’s why Bellezza Hair Design is too lovely for words (get it, because Bellezza means lovely in Italian).
The new hair salon in Morningside is owned and run by hair guru, Dustin and his girlfriend and is quite possibly the coolest and most unique hair salon in all of Joburg. Seriously, they don’t make hair salons like this anymore; in fact they have NEVER made hair salons quite like this. Dustin and his team have worked hard to bring discerning customers something different in the same-old-same old world of hair salons. After spending years building a reputation of note at GHDesigns Dustin has finally decided to go it alone and create a salon that is both stylish and cool while also offering clients the ultimate in pampering and relaxation.
The thing I love most about Bellezza is that everything about it takes the customer’s comfort into account. Gone are the super uncomfortable wash basins (you know the ones that give you a serious crick in the neck) and in their place are beautifully stylish recliner chairs that allow you to lay flat while having your hair washed, boringly simple salon decor has been swapped for an ultra cool Streampunk-like design, and in the place of the usual tea and coffee are sweat treats and a range of cold and hot drinks to indulge in.
As I mentioned the design is too cool for school and really shakes things up. Some of my favourite parts of the design of this space are the ceiling light fittings made from industrial pipes, wall-mounted mannequin hands as product display shelves, the back-lit mirrors which change colour every few minutes, the ultra cool retail area which is also made from industrial pipe and is an ode to the world of all things Steampunk, and of course the reclining shampoo chairs which turn the simple act of shampooing into a pamper session of note.
And then there are the treats! Customers are treated to a range of complimentary drinks including sparkling and still water, cappuccinos, Coke, fruit juices, Appletiser, red and white wine and Corona beers! And while you’re sipping on your drink you can treat your sweet tooth with a delicious complimentary cupcake. But that’s not all: the salon is also located in a trendy lifestyle centre that offers clients access to a gym, an eyelash and nail salon and soon a carwash and health cafe. This centre really is a one-stop shop for all your lifestyle needs.
Bellezza can be found upstairs in the back building of the lifestyle centre and boasts a large balcony area complete with lounge where clients can wait for their appointment or sit and enjoy the breeze while their colour sets. The salon’s huge sliding doors and balcony give the space a really open and airy feel that you don’t get at a lot of salons in shopping malls. In fact that’s the real beauty of Bellezza; it’s not in a mall and it’s definitely not some random salon that you just pop into for a quick blow-dry because it happens to be there. Bellezza is a destination salon for men and women who want their salon experience to be more than just a hair cut and a blow-dry.
Bellezza also offers client flexible operating times so they can get fit their pamper session into their busy lives. The salon is open from 09:00 -17:00 on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and from 09:00 – 20:00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Prices for the most common services are as follows blow-wave R210, cut and blow R460, gents cut R250, half-head foils and blow R850, treatments R250 and Brazilian blow-wave R2100 with a cut and blow-wave.
