Happy Tuesday, Darlings! You know, every so often, I like to grab lunch somewhere nice (shocking, right?). There are days when the nearest fast food joint just won’t do and I find myself in search of something more sophisticated, trendy and slightly exclusive. I don’t know about you but, in my book, the best place to find that kind of spot is definitely Melrose Arch. The team and I took a drive there just the other day – and we popped into Protea Hotel Fire & Ice to see what they had on offer.
Now, if you haven’t been to the restaurant at the hotel lately, you have to make a plan to. Think modern décor, neutral colours and a touch of elegance in the form of stunning chandeliers and mirrors (so you can make sure that you eat well and look good too!). I’d say that it’s the perfect place for lunch with the girls, team bonding sessions or even quality time with that special someone.
Let’s be honest though … what you really want to know about is the food, am I right? Because we care about you and your dining choices, the team and I tried a little of everything (yes, we did it all for you). To start off with, we went with a combo of their Duck and Dive and Sweet Lips dishes – and yes, it really is as interesting as it sounds. The duck breast carpaccio was so tasty, and I loved the various flavours in the dish like grapefruit, ginger and cashew nuts!
We definitely weren’t going to stop there so we decided to try out their Mushroom Cloud dish as well … it’s basically roasted Portobello mushrooms soaked in hot balsamic rosemary jam, with a creamy blue cheese reduction and slivers of biltong (How unique is that!?) Needless to say, it was good! Then … onto the main meal – we had chicken with a bit of Chakalaka, and oxtail simmered in butterbean and marrow sauce with creamed spinach on the side … talk about a truly African meal! The flavour of the entire dish was simply explosive … it’s definitely something you should try.
For dessert, we had a range of different dishes (again, it was all for you) including their American cheesecake, the Godfather and a chocolate brownie. (Owed to my standing as a chocoholic, I’m sure you can guess which one was my favourite.) The thing I loved most about the dessert though was the presentation – it almost looked too pretty to eat (almost)!
By the end of the lunch, we were completely satisfied … it may be too soon to say, but I’m pretty sure we’ll be having all our team bonding sessions there now!
Say Hi to Protea Hotel Fire & Ice Melrose Arch on .
