Darlings, you have no idea how excited I am to share today’s find with you all. You see, over the past few years I have developed an obsession with lingerie. Not a love of lingerie – a literal obsession. Corsets and bustiers, knee-high stockings, camisoles, baby doll sets, lacy bras – you name it, I’ve probably got it. I’m quite sure this obsession stems from my other obsession with old school Hollywood and 50s pinups, as my very favourite types of lingerie are usually the old school Hollywood glamour-style pieces. The only problem with having this obsession is that there aren’t nearly enough fabulous lingerie stores to shop at in Joburg. Which is why I was beyond excited to discover the ultimate lingerie store in Joburg and that it caters for ladies of ALL sizes – no jokes! Here’s why you should drop everything you are doing and head to The Corsetiere right now!
When I first set foot into this store, I was blown away by how beautiful it is – dark wood finishes; black, silver and white patterned wallpaper and large golden chandeliers all give it a vintage boudoir feel and make the store a pleasure to shop in. And, when I dug a little deeper I started to realise that it is so much more than a pretty face; it’s like underwear heaven! If you’ve ever hunted for the perfect piece of lingerie only to come up empty handed or buying something that wasn’t quite what you wanted, then you are going to love this shop. Corsets, bustiers, negligees, body contouring underwear, sleepwear, mastectomy underwear, suspender belts, wedding lingerie, bra and panty sets – you name it, the Corsetiere sells it! And, if you can’t find what you are looking for in their store, they will try their darndest to try and find it for you - love it!
The store is well so well stocked because the owners themselves are larger busted ladies who became frustrated with having to go overseas to buy decent lingerie in their sizes. And so, in 2010 the mother, daughter and aunt team decided to create a space where ladies of all shapes and sizes could find exactly what they were looking for in swimwear, underwear and sexy lingerie. And, when I say they cater for all sizes I mean it – the store sources garments from all over the world (including South Africa) and specialises in catering for ‘unusual’ bust and back sizes as well as more common sizes (I’m talking everything from AA – K cup and everything from 28 – 52 back size!) All the ladies in the store are also qualified fitters and they offer a personalised fitting service to ensure that every lady that leaves their store is perfectly fitted and happy with her purchase. The idea is to make every woman feel beautiful but also to make sure that bigger busted ladies and fuller figured ladies are wearing the correct bra size (the key to preventing back problems).
Some of the things that caught my eye in the store were their impressive selection of stockings in every colour and design under the sun, drop dead gorgeous corsets (they have some of the most beautiful corsets I have ever seen and they go up to 3XL!), sexy negligees (which also go up to 3XL), accessories (including chicken fillets, perfume broaches, bra back extenders and even bra strap cushions) and their mastectomy selection (which offers a huge range of items that you would struggle to find anywhere else in Joburg). I was also delighted to see that they had an impressive selection of sports bras in all sizes as well as a vast selection of swimwear – including bikinis, one-piece suits and mastectomy swimwear.
What’s more, you don’t have to worry about breaking the bank at this spot as The Corsetiere caters for every budget! Since they stock both local and international brands you can buy bras from as little as R295 to as much as R1800. Sigh, it’s like a fairy tale! Say hello to the friendly guys from .
