Ever since my very first training bra I’ve been obsessed with lingerie. I’m not talking about underwear - those drab beige numbers you find at your local mass mart – no, I’m talking about lingerie - the beautiful, lacy and silky numbers that line the walls of specialised boutiques. You see, I learned from a very young age that underwear has the power to completely change the mood you’re in. Just think about how great you feel when you’re wearing a matching red lace bra and panty instead of a basic black bra and a pair of your dullest boy shorts. Now, of course 12 year old me wasn’t traipsing around in lacy red lingerie (12 years olds don’t have access to the kinds of cash you need for luxuries such as those) but I’ve always been fixated with owning matchy-matchy lingerie sets, and as a result my underwear drawers are the most sacred and organised places in my house.

This past week I paid a visit to a brand new lingerie boutique in leafy Parkhurst and not only fell in love with the gorgeous pieces they have in store, but also with the whole concept behind Strutt itself! You see, owner Ndileka has created a space that is so much more than a lingerie store – Strutt is all about making sure that women have a place where they can go to feel pampered, nurtured and confident about their body, no matter their shape or size. Ndileka explained that she wanted to have a store where curvier women and those with a fuller cup could come to buy elegant and sassy lingerie with ease. She is passionate about advocating that women come in all shapes and sizes and that not every woman is meant to fit into the teeny tiny body types showcased in glossy magazines.

In store you’ll find beautiful bras for the fuller figure and bigger cup sizes as well as smaller sizes, nursing bras, sports bars for the bigger bust, sleepwear, maternity wear, shape wear and a small selection of swimwear. All the stock is sourced by Ndileka herself and most of the bras you see in store are imported from a variety of countries, including France. I also discovered the most incredible bra travel cases in the store – little bra shaped containers that can fit up to 3 bras and accessories!

And now for the bombshell – Ndileka isn’t just a pretty face who is passionate about lingerie, she’s also a qualified medical doctor! She left the world of medicine to pursue her love for lingerie, and her calling to help women with breast cancer to regain their confidence and feel sassy and sexy again after a mastectomy. One of the fabulous things about Strutt is that they also stock post- mastectomy breast prostheses and bras – and beautiful ones at that. Clients can visit  Strutt and arrange a full consultation with Ndileka where she will fit them with prosthesis and coach them through the emotions and insecurities they may have after surgery.

Now all you have to do is go in and see the fabulousness for yourself!

Amore It's not every store where you will get that individual attention. I'm sure a lot of woman who have had breast cancer will love this store even more than us :-)

Janet Wow! This is truly amazing, ditto to what Tarryn said. The larger sizes are normally so dull and no hint of feeling sexy. So excited to check out this store.

Tarryn Thank you so much for this review, I drive past Strutt everyday and presumed it was another lingerie store for supermodel type bodies and not for the curvy or well endowed among us. It is so difficult to find beautiful lingerie in larger sizes. Will definitely stop in now!
