I am so beyond excited to tell you about today’s find! One of my very favourite spots, Morrells Boutique Venue has just launched a brand spanking new bistro and it’s unbelievably fabulous! One of the reasons I am so excited about this is that it means that I can now visit Morrells more often! The absolutely stunning estate can usually only be experienced by guests who stay over at the boutique hotel or those who are lucky enough to attend an event there (but seriously someone remotely close to me needs to have their wedding at Morrells just so I can finally attend a wedding there). So, if you’ve never paid a visit to the French-inspired property then your time for excuses is over because I simply must insist that you pay a visit to the new Morrells Bistro as soon as humanly possible.

The first thing you will notice about the bistro is that it is beyond pretty – during the day diners can sit in the fabulous bistro courtyard and stare in wonder at the vine covered walls and antique decor touches. The combination of wooden tables and chairs (for larger parties), romantic two-seater metal tables and chairs and pretty flower arrangements displayed in tea pots, watering cans and silverware gives the outside area of the bistro a relaxed but sophisticated feel. This spot is perfect for breakfast or lunch on a summer’s day. If it’s dinner you are after then you can book a table in the indoor bistro area which is just too romantic for words.  If you want to pop the question to your girlfriend or get out of the dog box for having one too many beers with your mates last Thursday night then this is the spot to do it. I dare any warm blooded lady not to love the stone cobbled floors, stunning vintage French-style furniture, classic artwork and romantic ambience created by the fireplace, and abundance of antique-looking chandeliers.

The great news is, this spot isn’t just a pretty face! Executive Chef, Tyrone Geduld, has gone to great lengths to ensure that the food suits the decor to a T! There are almost no words to describe how passionate this man is about his food and boy does it show on the plate. Tyrone takes inspiration from his surroundings at Morrells and serves up food that brings in elements of everything, from the roughness on the exposed brick walls to the colours found in the decor, trees and flowers that surrounds him every day.

I was lucky enough to try the breakfast, lunch and dinner menu at the brand new bistro (don’t ever say Joburg’s Darling isn’t thorough!) and I came away from the experience even more in love with Morrells than ever before. For breakfast I tucked into the decadent Morrells’ Flapjacks (red velvet flapjacks with cream cheese butter icing and maple syrup – R55). These were simply delicious and so worth the money - you get served a huge stack of flapjacks that are almost impossible to finish on your own if you have a tiny lady stomach like mine. Other breakfast options include the Health Breakfast (double thick Bulgarian yoghurt served with Morrells’ famous homemade muesli – R60) and the Sticky Honeybuns (freshly baked buns filled with raisins and nuts and topped with honey and mascarpone quenelle – R45).

For lunch I tucked into a much larger selection including the Morrells’ Caprese Salad (with chunky basil pesto, slithers of red onion micro shoots and balsamic pearls) for starters, Fillet of Beef (with rustic mash, seared prawn tail, grilled baby marrow, glazed carrot and red wine caramel sauce) for mains and the Deconstruction of Chocolate Fondue (with strawberries, shortbread fingers, banana spring roll and binage) for dessert. Lunch was simply divine and my favourite dish was definitely the steak which was an explosion of flavour in my mouth. I washed my lunch down with the oh-so-cool and tasty Boer and Brit Bob’s Your Uncle White wine which comes packaged in a beer bottle!

Dinner that night was a decadent affair and we were treated to a tasting menu of the Morrells’ main bistro menu. I can’t possibly list everything we tried (it was a ten-course meal!) but I can tell you about some of my favourites from the menu. I absolutely adored the Cream of Mushroom Soup (served with basil cream and thyme), lasagne (roasted beef mince, homemade béchamel and Napolitana sauce and parmesan cheese), and Salt and Pepper Calamari and would definitely recommend them as must-try dishes when you visit. All of our dinner dishes were washed down with a selection of Doran Vineyards Wines – a wine I have never tried but thoroughly enjoyed!

Naresh I simply neeedd to thank you so much once again. I am not sure what I would have undertaken in the absence of the solutions documented by you directly on this theme. It previously was a real difficult setting in my position, nevertheless coming across a specialised way you handled that made me to cry for delight. I am thankful for your work and then hope you realize what a powerful job your are putting in teaching the rest using your webblog. More than likely you've never got to know any of us. http://fazhwysos.com ydodpnhimcr [link=http://nskwfzuuaov.com]nskwfzuuaov[/link]

Anthea Beautiful setting and great food. We each had a starter and main, soft drinks and two glasses each of wine - total was around R700 (including a tip). Pricey but worthy of a special birthday meal. Thinking of returning in summer one evening when the fairy lights are lit. I've seen some negative comments about the food and service below - very different from our experience. Maybe because it was a Sunday and fairly quiet? Can't complain at all!

Bernie Sounds great, but I would be interested as to the average price for a lunch or dinner? Breakfasts seem well priced. Thanks
