Good morning, Darlings! Sometimes I feel that I’m so used to the hustle and bustle of Joburg that I underestimate some time away … it doesn’t have to be exotic or somewhere overseas – sometimes it can be just a 45-minute drive away. Luckily for you (and me), that’s exactly how long it takes to get to Kievits Kroon!
For those of you that don’t know, Kievits Kroon is only a hop and a skip away in Pretoria. (Now I love my city … but let’s be honest, there’s nothing wrong with enjoying everything that this gorgeous country has to offer, am I right?) Kievits is a great destination for a little rest, renewal and relaxation – I went there recently with my fiancé, Brenden … and I absolutely loved the experience!
We decided to take advantage of their True Romance Gourmet package, which includes luxury accommodation, a six-course gourmet tasting menu at Kievits’ Granita signature restaurant (each of which is paired with a different wine) and a scrumptious buffet breakfast at Kingsley’s restaurant. Firstly, I have to mention how stunning the grounds are – think a vintage, country type of look and feel (so basically lots of green and no gaudy buildings).
We were completely comfortable in our room; it was neat and well taken care of and the food at (both) their restaurants was as appetising as it was unique. Now before you hear six-course gourmet dinner and think, ‘I’ll never finish that!’ – you’ll be happy to know that the courses are not heavy … so you’ll probably have room for everything. Personally, my favourite dishes were the fricassee of chicken and chicken liver crème caramel with port reduction, which we had for starters, and the dessert (of course!) – passion fruit panna cotta … which was positively divine! Just so you know, the menu changes with each season so there’s always something new to try.
The highlight for me, though, was our time at the spa! We decided to indulge in their 90-minute Winelands Signature Spa Treatment, which includes a full body massage with hot stone reflexology and a luxurious hot oil scalp massage. At some point, I did feel a bit like an overcooked noodle … but I’m definitely not complaining – I felt like all my stress just melted away! Plus, the ladies that did our treatment were really friendly and constantly checked if we were comfortable with the amount of pressure that they were using. We even got to take advantage of the Jacuzzi and the Sauna at the spa (talk about the full treatment!).
The Winelands treatment will cost you about R680 per person and is not included in the True Romance Gourmet package. As for the package itself, it will cost you about R1 515 per person sharing per night and is valid until December 2015 … but ONLY on Fridays and Saturdays. All in all, it was the perfect way to spend a weekend and to treat ourselves to something simply sublime!
Say Hi to Kievits Kroon on .
