Not so long ago, I lost a sandwich.
Now, readers, before you laugh, you should know that this was no ordinary sandwich. It was the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to consume deliciousness. Some might even say that it could heal any dreaded disease.
I'm not sure how or why it happened. But in all honesty, the experience scarred me. I mourned for hours like Rose did for Jack in Titanic, after watching him sink slowly into the icy cold waters, slamming my hands on the wooden plank screaming “why, god, why!”. I felt cold and alone.
Needless to say, I realised that it was never lost. I forgot that I ate it, which is beside the point!
Moving on... said sandwich was brought home from my visit to Warm & Glad in Craighall Park – a secret cove of coffee and deli delights. Bursting at the seams with food, media, culture and coffee, Warm & Glad is a space to meet, greet and retreat to.
MY sandwich (and no one else’s) was filled with Parma ham, melted gorgonzola and fig preserves, seductively laid between two pieces of warm and freshly toasted Ciabatta Bread. Can you now understand my above mentioned scene from Titanic?
You’ll also find that Warm & Glad boast a diverse selection of breakfast bites, salads and bar plates (cheese and meat cold cuts). I think their pricing is very reasonable – with generously sized meals ranging from R20 to R50.
When browsing through the menu, look out for their shlurp-worthy coffees, lattes and cappuccinos available to appease any caffeine lover, as well as a selection of imported teas to choose from.
Personally, I love the fact they sell imported and local newspapers, a selection of fashion, art, architecture and business magazines, books, vinyl records and art prints that offset the deli food goods on offer. They’ve set out to introduce new products and selections and update the menu on a regular basis – making this place fresh all the time!
Warm & Glad is the perfect venue for a Saturday breakfast or brunch, as well as a weekday meeting venue offering customers complimentary WIFI.
Open Monday – Friday from 7.30am – 4:30pm and from 8.30am – 12.30pm on Saturdays.
Follow them on or become a fan on for regular updates.
