One does not eat an entire ice cream cake on their own! Errr … well … actually, I was hell-bent on trying when I had a taster of the most decadent sweet-salted caramel ice cream cake with heaps of marshmallows lightly toasted on top. This homemade ice cream cake was whipped up by Paul Ballen and Danya Amoils and would even make good ol’ Gordon Ramsey do cartwheels it was so darn delicious. My jeans may be saying “jeepers woman, eat a salad!”, but my heart is saying “just one more slice”. Plus, read on to find out how one lucky Darling can win one of these ice cream cakes!
If you haven’t heard about Paul’s Homemade Ice Cream (PHIC) you can read Shelli’s rave review here. It’s so good that even she says it should come with a warning label for your thighs! Paul (or as most people know him, the “ice cream king”) has partnered with Danya and together they are destroying diets all over Jozi.
You won’t find any yucky synthetic additives in these cakes - no way! Each litre is made by hand with only the freshest ingredients. The result? A smooth, creamy ice cream that is packed with flavour. As for the different kinds of cakes, think Top Deck, (Paul and Danya’s favourite), a Peppermint Crisp Ice Cream Tart (it’s crammed with peppermint and biscuit crunch and topped off with a minty caramel swirl) or Turkish Madagascan Delight with a layer of Turkish delight ice cream stacked on a layer of their signature Madagascan vanilla, sprinkled with mini Turkish delight pieces. It’s no wonder that these days I enjoy long romantic walks – to the fridge that is! Paul and Danya are happy to turn any one of your favourite PHIC flavours into a gourmet ice cream cake. One cake can feed up to eighteen people - unless I’m invited that is! Orders need to be placed one week in advance. From R400.
