If you’re a foodie or simply enjoy great food, you’ve got to add Licorish Bistro to your list of places to eat at. Darlings, last week I visited this hip, contemporary spot with a girlfriend of mine for lunch and was left ever so delighted!
My friend and I arrived at the trendy restaurant and were instantly made to feel right at home by the friendly, passionate staff. We took a seat in one of the plush red leather booths and then ordered up a round of cocktails to start.
I went for the GUCCI Martini (fresh muddled watermelons shaken with granadilla, apple and Hendrick’s Gin), while my friend ordered the Strawberry Blonde Martini (fresh strawberries shaken with fresh basil, cranberry, orange liqueur, Smirnoff black vodka and extra bold pepper). Both cocktails were beautifully presented and amazingly refreshing!
For starters, we then ordered a tasting board consisting of four of the restaurant’s most well-loved starters – the smoked duck salad, rooibos tea smoked ostrich, chickpea fritters and chilli salt squid. All four dishes were absolutely phenomenal, but my two favourites were the duck and the squid, both of which were perfectly cooked and wonderfully tasty.
For mains, my friend and I decided to do the same thing as we did for starters, and order a tasting board. This one consisted of six tantalising dishes – the beef rib eye, beef fillet, grilled kingklip, salmon fishcake, lamb shank and slow-roasted pork belly. The platter was very creative, not to mention stunningly presented. We both enjoyed each and every mouthful!
The standouts for me on the tasting board of mains were by far the kingklip and the fishcake. I just loved the tantalising curry coconut and lime sauce that the kingklip was done in! The fishcake, on the other hand, was topped with a tangy sauce that I just couldn’t get enough of – how delicious!
To end off our moreish lunch on a sweet note, my friend and I decided to order three desserts to share – the strawberry crumble, chocolate fondant and apple strudel. Each dessert was a unique and simply to-die-for combination, but the strawberry crumble was certainly the star of the show! Served with a decadent liquorice ice cream, I’ve decided that this is one of the best desserts I’ve eaten.
Overall, I had an exceptional experience at Licorish Bistro. The food and cocktails are both out of this world, the service is prompt and attentive, and the atmosphere is stylish yet laidback. Darlings, this is a fabulous spot to tuck into a delicious lunch with the girls, or to enjoy an intimate date night with that someone special. Go and try it out for yourselves!
