A rather fabulous male friend once proudly told me that he wanted to have children simply for aesthetic purposes – he adored children’s fashion and furniture so much that he had convinced himself that having kids was an absolute necessity. Sure, it’s an odd statement to make but I thought it was absolutely hilarious. I’m quite sure that if I do have children one day that I will be the type of mom who gets super excited about cute outfits and oh-so-precious furniture for my little darling so I can totally relate to what he is saying. Especially since the kid’s fashion industry is getting better and better in South Africa – there are so many more options available to moms and dads who want to make their little one the most fashionable tot on the block. One place that is really stepping up the kid’s fashion game is Frilly Frog – a children’s clothing, toy and accessory store that is hell-bent on bringing the very best in kiddie’s fashion to Joburg!

The little store can be found in the recently refurbished Bryanston Shopping Centre and is beyond awesome. If you are a mom or need to find the very best baby shower gift ever then this is the place to visit. The store offers cute-as-a-button fashion items for both boys and girls up to age 7 and I can honestly say that the stuff in this store is some of the cutest stuff I have ever seen (seriously, my fabulous guy friend would just explode with excitement!) From super cute tutus paired with fashion forward yet practical leggings, faux fur zip-up vests and cooler-than-cool T-shirts to sweatshirts, pretty baby grows and booties they’ve got it all!

What I love most about the goodies stocked at Frilly Frog is that they have sourced items from some of the very best local designers to bring their customers stuff that they would not be able to find with ease anywhere else. Owner Georgina also likes to make sure that they keep their stock up to date by bringing in something new and exciting every week (great news for moms who LOVE to shop!) The shop also keeps small quantities of each item so that the things they offer are as exclusive as possible  (and so that your tot doesn’t have to face the embarrassing ordeal of arriving at little Suzy’s birthday party only to find that little Mary is wearing the same dress as her.)

Some of the most unique and exclusive ranges in the store include the Echo Punk, Vintage Belle and Sticky Fudge ranges. These ranges offer something different from the usual teddy bears and bunnies you usually find on kid’s clothing with interesting patterns, cute and cool motifs and fashion forward items. Some of the girl’s items I fell in love with in the store included a white sweater emblazoned with a black cat and the words “Je T’aime, Mon Petit Chat” on the front, a pair of black and grey striped leggings and a pretty dark blue tutu with gold bow detail on the front. Their boy’s clothes are also très cute and I fell head over heels for a little manikin sporting a pair of jeans paired with a light grey hoodie with dark grey details, a dark grey sweater with a picture of a camera and the word “Smile” imprinted on the front and a dark grey woolly beanie.

What’s more all these stunning items are priced extremely well so they won’t break the bank! You can find items from R160 to R500 (depending on the item) and it is clear to see that Frilly Frog’s prices are very well priced when compared to other kid’s boutiques. Frilly Frog also sells a range of educational and unique toys that make for great baby shower gifts or birthday presents for friends and family.

You can shop up a storm at the Bryanston store or visit them online and shop from the comfort of your own home!
