Acrobranch is located in the James and Ethel Grey Park (just around the corner from Melrose Arch), and it is SUCH a find! Stephen, Kayla and I went with friends last week so that our 5-year olds could try it out and vowed to return as soon as we can so that the grown-ups can have a go! Think of a giant obstacle course through the trees, and you get the idea!
Once you have been harnassed and instructed on how to move around the course, you are good to go – and can do as many laps as you like! There are various courses that are restricted according to either age or height – getting higher and more difficult as you progress, but if the whoops of delight from up above were anything to go by, everyone was having an absolute blast!
Kayla and her friend Josh were restricted to one fairly long course – their feet were at adult chin height, to give you an idea of how far off the ground they were. It was amazing to watch them progress from being very cautious (as they walked over wobbly log or rope bridges and as they went down the ‘foefie slide”) to these confident little monkeys after their third round. It was amazing to watch how their balance and problem-solving abilities improved with each lap – an added bonus to a fun day out!
The weather was fairly chilly, so we headed off to Melrose Arch for hot chocolate, but in warmer weather I think we will definitely use their braai facilities and make a day of it (especially so that the grown-ups can have a turn!) While we were there, two children’s parties were on the go – a fabulous idea to keep in mind when looking for a venue! This would also be a fantastic team-building option.
The costs are R70 (children 3 – 7), R100 (children 7 – 12), R130 (teenagers) and R150 (adults).
Acrobranch is open every afternoon from 1 – 5pm, and from 9am – 5pm on weekends and Public Holidays (depending on the weather – do call ahead if you are not sure.)
