Darlings, it’s official, True Religion jeans are finally in South Africa! Before this momentous occasion, it was possible to get your hands on a pair of True Religion denims if you really tried (there are one or two stores that stock their jeans) but we have never had a standalone store with the entire range available! I got to attend the official launch of the very first True Religion store at Sandton City and it was an occasion of note! Don’t get me wrong their jeans are by no means cheap but if you are the kind of fashionista who believes that money is no object when it comes to fashion then the opening of this store is probably a dream come true. Keep reading to get the low-down on the store and some of the fabulous items on offer.
If you haven’t already heard (because you’ve been living under a rock somewhere) True Religion is an internationally renowned jeans brand from America. The brand is loved and worn by celebrities and the super rich and for good reason! The brand was first conceptualised as a way to redefine premium denim through an emphasis on fit, quality and style. In just over a decade the brand has become somewhat iconic and I am so excited to finally have them in South Africa.
The store itself is all kinds of cool with exposed stone brick walls, loads of wood everywhere and wall-to-ceiling jeans. It is by no means a massive store (in fact it’s pretty tiny) but you will definitely be able to browse the jeans, T-shirts, hoodies and active gear available in store with ease and comfort. I also like that the store offers sample racks of all the items available in store – from here you can easily see the various jeans styles and other items available in store without having to rifle through the shelves. The store is located near the Edgars court in Sandton City and is surrounded by other fancy pants stores like Grays and Hugo Boss.
But enough about the store, let’s talk about the clothes. I love that each item of clothing in the True Religion range is individually distressed and that each item is unique. As you wear their jeans, T-shirts and hoodies you will notice areas of fading, wear and even holes (mostly in the jeans – you won’t find a hole in your T-shirt!) These little eccentricities are completely intentional and no two garments will have the same ‘flaws’.
To put it simply, True Religion jeans are just beautiful. Looking at the various styles available in store I was blown away by the gorgeous cuts available and how cool the designs and washes are. I hate to say it but there seems to be a cut, wash and design for everyone in this store – from cigarette to skinny they’ve got it all. I fell in love with a pair of light denim skinny jeans which were distressed in all the right places. The T-shirts in store are also super cool and have that lovingly-worn look. I spotted the coolest grey Marl crew neck T-shirt (R1295) in store which would look ultra cool paired with a pair of True Religion jeans. And, to finish off my laid back outfit I set my sights on a dusty pink Carmelia Red zip-up hoody (R2795).
And now, let’s talk about the elephant in the room – the price of these rather awesome jeans. I scoped out the price tags for you so you know what to expect when visiting the store and Darlings I am sorry to inform you that these babies do come at a rather hefty price. You will fork out about R4500 for a pair of True Religion denims but like I said, if you are willing to spend that then this store will be your new-favourite place to shop. If not, you can be like me and just stare at them longingly when you walk by (hey, at least it’s something right?)
True Religion has plans to expand and open more stores across the country soon. What’s more, a little birdy told me that the Surtee Group (the holding company responsible for bringing True Religion to South Africa) are also working on bringing 7 For All Mankind jeans into the country – watch this space!
