Great Things Do Come in Small Packages!

If there’s one thing you should know about it me it’s that I am obsessed with my cell-phone. I can’t go anywhere without it and one of my worst nightmares is seeing the little ‘low battery’ warning smugly flashing at me when I have forgotten to charge my phone. In addition to that I am also a little bit obsessive about my Samsung Galaxy S4 – the device just fits so seamlessly into my life that I can’t imagine using anything else for browsing the web, messaging my loved ones or accessing important files and documents. Which is why when Sony contacted me to take part in the iChange campaign and swop my Samsung Galaxy S4 out for their sleek and compact Sony Experia Z1 Compact for two whole months I was a little apprehensive at first. This is the story of how we became best friends and I realised that dynamite really does come in small packages!

One of the biggest differences between the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact is size – the Z1 Compact seems a lot smaller than the S4 and at first it was a little difficult to get used to but then I checked the specks and realised that the differences weren’t that big! The Galaxy S4’s screen measures 5 inches and the Z1 4.3 inches which is a negligible difference in the grand scheme of things. I was also super impressed with the 1280 x 720 screen resolution on the Z1 compact – things appeared bright and crisp on the screen and it’s a pleasure to use even after long periods of time reading on the device. The Z1 is also a lot lighter than the S4 and I found that it fit into my hand a lot better when texting and browsing the web –something I do a lot of! I never thought I could switch to a smaller device but using the Z1 Compact actually made me want to switch to a more compact phone!

Something else that really stood out for me was the difference in the cameras on the two devices. The S4 has an 13MP camera and a 2MP front facing camera and while that is great for taking the odd snap now and then it isn’t exactly the best you can get. The Z1 with its 20.7MP camera and 2MP front facing camera really blew me away – the device is great for snapping pics and fits neatly into your pocket or handbag so you’ll always have a super compact camera with you to capture those important moments. I also found that, even though the front facing camera specs where the same, the Z1 Compact takes better photos using the front facing camera than the S4. I have always found the S4’s front facing camera to be super grainy and avoid using the front facing camera like the plague because of it.

Lastly, and almost most importantly, there’s the fact that the device is waterproof (up to 30 minutes at a depth of 1.5m) and dust resistant. This is a huge one for me as I live in constant fear that I am going to drop my phone into the bath, the toilet, the sink – any body of water really! The fact that the Z1 compact has ports that you can seal when not in use is a big plus for me and puts my mind at ease when using my device.

The Sony Xperia Z1 Compact is a fabulous device for ladies who want something sleek, a little bit smaller yet still incredibly on trend in terms of specs and usability. With the Z1 compact there is no need to downgrade as you can get everything you need (and more!) in this super cute device!

So now here’s the question; to swop or not to swop? My answer is; to swop! Although I love my Galaxy S4 the Z2 compact has stolen my heart and this seems as good a time as any to take up a more compact lifestyle – I mean hey, at least I will have more room for my lipstick now!
